Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle - Movie Review

in #movies7 years ago

I approached Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle with mixed feelings. A sequel to the 1995 Jumanji seemed fraught with pitfalls. The original Jumanji story-line was filled with plenty of action, memorable performances by Robin Williams and Bonnie Hunt and was a movie that I have enjoyed viewing on more than one occasion.

In Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, four high school kids in current time, who are on detention are drawn into an old Jumanji video game which is still locked in the 1990s. It is fun seeing the kids come to understand that they are now game avatars and explore their assets and weaknesses. The team is informed that a villain has stolen the jaguar’s jewel and a curse has fallen on the land of Jumanji. It is their mission to restore the jewel and save Jumanji. The team quickly learns that the bars tattooed on their forearms represent the 3 lives they are allotted for the game. If they use all their lives they are gone forever.

Each character has a growth arc as their true personalities come through and expand as they learn to work as a team and optimize on their assets. Jack Black does an outstanding job playing a social media queen who finds there is more to life than her phone. Nick Jonas is well cast as the player from 1996 who doesn’t realize he’s been in the game for over 20 years and has to overcome his fear of losing his last life to finish the game. Dwayne Johnson is super embodying the nerdy introvert gamer who must lead the team using his gameplayer knowledge and grow into his brave, extrovert avatar.

Spoiler alert – this is a feel-good family movie. The action sequences are well-done and blend well with the story-line. One of the stand-out action sequences is a helicopter peril scene with man-eating rhinos. A really fun scene is when Ruby Roundhouse (played by Karen Gillan) figures out her dance fighting asset to the tune of “Baby, I Love Your Way”.

Overall, I enjoyed the film, it is popcorn fun and the dread of the drumbeats is contagious. Check it out. Let me know what you think.

Hello friend how are you, the jumanji movie that we all know is so good that they still pass it on television and I see it the same, Robin Williams was an excellent actor and although he is not among us he left us his memorable performances, I have not seen this new version, the actors Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are great I've seen many movies of them and I like your excellent review leaves me wanting more so I'll see, greetings I hope you're fine.

Hi Jenni! It's worth seeing and you can see how they followed a similar path to keep it familiar to the original.

I'll see if I can download it and tell you my experience, thanks friend for the support

Hi, my friend, @altportal, how are you? How about your day? Fantastico this publication I loved, personally I really like the original movie Jumaji with Robin Williams, which makes the child who got stuck in the game years ago, this film I will confess that I have seen many times, every time they spend it on television I see it. Regarding Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle, I have not had the opportunity to see it, it's on many of the movie theaters here in the country, but unfortunately going to the movies is very expensive and that's why I have not had the opportunity to go see it, but to be honest I'm dying to see this movie. I've only seen the Trailers and you can really see the excitement and the adventure of the movie, in addition to having the leading role of Dwayne Johnson and that makes the movie even better. This movie is full of adventures and action, so I'm dying to see it. I hope to see it someday, so for now with your wonderful review and the trailers that I saw, I've already tasted a bit the movie, but I want to look at it completely if no doubt. Thanks for sharing the review of this fantastic movie, like the original Jumanji, this one is very good. Blessings for you, friend.

I hear you. Movie theaters are ridiculously expensive here too. We watch most of our movies on DVD or Ondemand. Less than $5 and everyone in the room can watch.

Oh yes excellent idea, it is also a good option to see the movies by internet pages, and they are paid but it is much less expensive than going to the movies. Very good comment, friend @altportal, that would be a good option.

This is a movie that despite the years still remains one of the best to share with family, who has not seen this movie? I think most of the people a classic, it is good to get something refreshing but with that same magic, and apart to go see it this weekend at the cinema

It's very good I think that many of us grew up with this movie, I watched it a lot on TV whenever I was there I looked at it I had already heard of this new one I even think that it is in the cinemas of my country I'm anxious to see it they say it's good

Well I enjoyed this one.... Great, but not spectacular

I also like movies! But I have not looked at those yet. It will be necessary to look. Good luck.

Think I just found the movie to watch tonight! 🍿

Thanks for the review!
