Late to the Party: Wreck-it Ralph

in #movies7 years ago

Every once in a while a movie just kind of slips past you, maybe you were busy or just not impressed by the trailer or advertising. Wreck-it Ralph was one of those movies for me. It sounded like something I would like, combining a villain centered story with cool throwbacks to arcade games. I also usually enjoy John C Reilly, though I wish he wouldn't pair with Will Ferrell so often. So I can't really pin down why I didn't see it but I'm glad I gave it a chance yesterday.

This movie has some great animation. The seamless transitions from retro arcade graphics to modern animation is really spot on. I was kind of worried going in but they really nailed it. The story is good, not great but I will admit I did not see the ending coming and overall the story does the job. John C Reilly as Ralph, Sarah Silverman as Vanellope Von Schweetz , Jack McBrayer as Fixit Felix Jr. and Jane Lynch as Sergeant Calhoun all turn in great performances, as does Alan Tudyk as King Candy. I'm not going to spoil the story here even though the movie is quite old as if you managed to be like me and not hear anything about it the last six years you will have a better experience for it.

Make no mistake this is firmly a Disney kids movie but even saying that I felt like this one layered in a lot of references and subtle humor that only adults can really appreciate(more so than the average Disney movie). It's fun to see characters interact, the villain support group is quite funny, and even the "lowbrow" humor was well done(you know what I mean if you have seen it, if not get ready to laugh). So now onto the big question, why after all these years did I decide to watch it? I heard about the sequel. I wasn't really all that excited when I heard about it but I sure am now. Wreck-it Ralph Breaks the Internet is hitting theaters November 21st and is set to feature the Disney Princess line up, Star Wars characters including Yoda and loads of other internet references. Mario is also rumored to appear which is quite rare for IP guarding fiends Nintendo so they must have faith that the movie will be good as they do not take many risks when it comes to their main characters. After seeing the great work they did in the first movie and seeing that most of the team is returning for the sequel I can say I am eagerly awaiting the sequel.

To sum it up, Wreck-it Ralph is a good movie, you should watch it if you haven't already. Here is hoping they can pull it off again(or maybe even better). I'll leave you with a trailer and a huge thank you to everyone for helping me to hit 100 followers. Enjoy the movie, and for anyone in my position, we won't have to wonder when we can see them again.

Almost a shame you haven't seen it until now. Really fun movie and great with the game references. I am already stoked with the new trailer and can't wait to see what they do on the internet.

I am definitely looking forward to it as well, thanks for reading!
