So we’ve had the X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four, and Guardians of the Galaxy. We’ve had your Dark Knights, your Men of Steel, your Wonder Women, and your Justice Leagues.
They’ve all been great in one way or another, some more than others. (You’ll notice Green Lantern wasn’t on that list?)
Then came Deadpool and Logan. Rated R superhero movies? It’s like we were missing something the entire time and these two movies were fantastic! Over the top violence? Check. Profanity? Check. Suggestive Themes? Check. Everything that is actually IN the comics these characters come from, accurately portrayed in a movie. I was great fun, and the audiences agreed. Since we are a few short months away from the eagerly anticipated Deadpool 2, releasing May 18th, I got to thinking what could be the next big character brought to life that would experience a popularity boost like Deadpool did.
The answer? LOBO, the Scourge o’ the Cosmos, the Last Czarnian, the MAIN MAN!
Some of you may be wondering “who the hell is Lobo?” Well, ….I’ll tell you about the Ultimate Bastich.
He was originally created in the 80’s as an bad guy, and was ultimately under utilized. It wasn’t until the early 90’s that they brought him back as an anti-hero to mock the all-too serious Marvel characters like Wolverine and Punisher. Indeed, I have always looked at Lobo as a merging together of Wolverine, Punisher, Ghost Rider, and Deadpool, which just made him that much more entertaining to me as those were four of my favorite Marvel characters.
Lobo is an Alien that was born on a planet called Czarnia, a once Utopian type planet , until Lobo wiped them all out. He now makes a name for himself throughout the galaxy as a mercenary and bounty hunter. He has only one rule, once he takes a contract, he will finish it even if he has to “sacrifice” himself. However, if he is offered more money to go against the contract, he will usually take it. He can regenerate from pretty much any wound, even a single drop of blood. He is a womanizer, spawning thousands of children across the universe.
His favorite weapon is a Large chain with a hook on the end that he keeps wrapped around his wrist. Then a assortment of explosives and high damage weaponry. He rides through space on his motorcyce , or Space Hog, tracking down what ever contract or bounty he is currently after. Wherever Lobo goes, destruction is sure to follow. But the clincher here is that it is all handled in such an off the cuff manner that it’s actually quite hilarious.
I feel that a Lobo movie, made with today’s technology would be a delight to watch. While it would more than likely be attacked by SJW’s for brutality, violence, over sexualization of women, vulgarity, or other such nonsense, I feel that it would be a roaring success. This would also give DC a chance to stand against Marvel and their juggernauts of comedy and action flicks, something that DC has been lacking, levity in their films.
So that’s my quick run down. Do you agree? What character would you like to see get a shot at the big screen?
Loved the Lobo stories in nineties! Would love to see a movie.
Right, it's definitely about time we get one. I mean if Aquaman can get a movie......
Interesting. Never heard of Lobo before. I think if they ever were to make a movie about him, and stayed true to the comic, that it will probably create a cult following.
Can't think of any character I would like to see right now. But, let me ask you a questions: Who would you choose to play him in the movie? Do you have an actor in mind?
That's a tough question. I've never envied casting agents, especially when it comes to comic movies. Fans can be brutal. Look at what happened when they cast the beloved Michael Clarke Duncan as the Kingpin, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, or Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin (Let's not get me started on that joke of a story line) Actors can no longer be cast because they are GOOD at their jobs.
That little rant aside (sorry), as weird as a choice as it may seem.. How about Jon Cena? He's got the stature, he's got the comedic chops. Give him a strong supporting cast and I think he would do great.
Another unlikely candidate would be Dwayne Johnson. Stature, Comedic , and could carry a movie on his own.
Jason Momoa would also be a great choice.
Jason Momoa is already Aquaman, so no can do.
Having said that Ryan Reynolds was a failure as Green Lantern but spot on as Deadpool, so I guess crossing over from DC to Marvel is possible.
True - and I thought he rocked as Aquaman. But if Josh Brolin can be Thanos AND Cable, I don't see why Momoa couldn't do both roles, especially as Lobo would me a makeup heavy role.
By pure coincidence I found a post from somebody else here on steemit about your man Lobo. Check it out here https://steemit.com/cryptopub/@sequentialvibe/strange-comic-find-at-the-antique-mall
Nice, checking it out now! Appreciate the heads up!
