Director of week #1: J.J. Abrams
Science fiction movies undoubtedly represent a lot of what I like to see in movies, because through it we can get a glimpse of hundreds of scenarios that we could achieve in some not too distant future, and no doubt some of the best science fiction movies have been born and reborn under the creative mind of J.J. Abrams, a director who handles all the technical and visual aspects of the sci-fi genre in an impressive way giving us always entertaining and visually incredible movies. One of the films that were reborn under the mind of this director was Star Trek, a film with a lot of background and that managed to bring to a more current shot in a wonderful way.

To be totally honest I am not very familiar with the old sagas belonging to the world of Star Trek so I only think of what this film is without linking or comparing it with others of the same story. Star Trek is a film that focuses on the adventures of a new space recruit, a brave and somewhat risky recruit who is not accustomed to taking orders, a recruit who has just begun his career as an active member of one of the most recognized space crews in the universe, dedicated to investigate and protect different planets from external threats. After using the first few minutes of the film to introduce us to who would be our protagonist for the rest of the story, the plot of this film changes and concentrates more on exploring the different group dynamics that are present within the ship, dynamics that are affected when an enemy of the future who has come to destroy different planets one by one attacks them and captures their captain by making the crew panic and decide to do something to rescue their captain. Obviously this whole rescue planning thing wasn't easy, and that's where we started to see James Kirk begin his journey to take command of the ship despite his constant fights with the first officer, Spock.
Although it seems atypical is from the capture of the captain of the Enterprise when the plot of this film begins to develop dramatically and intensely because we begin to see the constant battle of thoughts that two totally different men have in relation to how to proceed before such a big threat, two men who have nothing in common and who are still destined to be friends and together rescue the universe from all sorts of problems. That's when we finally say Star Trek starts, as I said I'm not an expert in Star Trek but I have a basic knowledge, and really entertaining to see how each of the fights between Spock and Kirk always take them to opposite points that end up uniting for the common good, the whole thing of being right and being who of give the orders is developed in a splendid way so that we can get into a relationship of friendship/hate that takes all the reflectors of the film, but nevertheless does not detract from the rest of the story.

All this fear of having to face a man of the future who has a weapon capable of destroying planets is great because the scriptwriters managed to make it really threatening and after all that is very important when building a villain, someone who is able to represent a really serious threat that is not just something superficial. This film has a fantastic rhythm, because although during the development of the film we have to deal with the issue of Kirk and Spock and all this threat of the villain, we never feel overwhelmed, J.J. Abrams manages to create an intense atmosphere full of constant action that is complemented by some really amazing visual elements, some elements that give life to the story making it mature and above all artistic.
The way in which J.J. Abrams managed to build an entire spatial universe is fascinating because all the visual details are perfectly taken care of to fit perfectly with a super intense and entertaining plot. It is really a delight for the eyes to see how the characters evolve to finally take a central role that makes them stand out in the film. I'm not very familiar with the old Star Trek movies but no doubt this new universe that J.J. Abrams successfully created is impressive because visually it's perfect and also argumentally is super refined so that no detail escapes, even J.J. Abrams dared to use the original Spock in a fantastic way linking the past with the future and creating memorable scenes.

So far this is one of my favorite science fiction films, a film that managed to transport me to a future where intergalactic travel was a constant reality full of incredible visual scenarios.
