Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (film) - Keanu's breakout role

in #movies6 years ago

I say this because this put him on the "map" so to speak in terms of Hollywood. This film is also a "blessing and a curse" for ol' Reeves, who has struggled to shake the silly nature of his character in this film and I think people should just let that go. He is one of the biggest action stars of all time and although I don't really think he is a fantastic actor, he is in a lot of fantastic films.

I tend to view Keanu in the same light as Leo Dicaprio and for the most part Nick Cage. They aren't really great actors but for some reason they continually land excellent films and these movies almost always make tons of money. That is another story though I suppose.

If you are over 30, you probably already know about this movie but if your only experience with Keanu is wooden action films, I highly suggest you check this movie out because while it is stupid, it is also a lot of fun. When watching it it is hard to imagine that Reeves went on to build his career almost exclusively doing action films, but i think we have Point Break to thank for that.

The story is like this: Ted (Reeves) and Bill (Alex Winter) are high-school idiots who focus all their time and energy on their band the "Wyld Stallions" and not so much on schoolwork. They are in danger of failing but then come across a time-machine where they go around and find a bunch of historical figures to help them pass their final exam.

They meet up with Abraham Lincoln, Socrates (who they call "so-krates") and Beethoven (who they call "Beeth- Oven.") Sound dumb yet? Well it is. However i was very young when it came out and it really appealed to me then. Now when i see it it is mostly just to see Keanu not scowl all the time because that is pretty much all he does in films these days.

this trailer is so 80's

So the only reason I am suggesting this film is because there are grumblings that Reeves is thinking of a reboot of this film, presumably so his pal Alex Winter can have some work. I think it is a bad idea but whatever. I'm sure it will make a crap ton of money. This is NOT a great movie, but it did make more than $30 million and solidified Reeves as a Hollywood powerhouse and I suppose that is a good thing.

6 / 10

I'm probably giving a few more points than it deserves based on nostalgia

Always loved the Bill n Ted movies back in the day. Thanks for a trip down memory lane @gooddream!

When Wayne’s Worlds was released it cast Bill and Ted into the shadows forever

that film was also terrible... but well, also made a bunch of money :)

The line “ I do not own a gun let alone many guns to necessitate a gun rack” or “are you mental? , I was there” are just two lines in Wayne’s World I repeat quite regularly. I liked Wayne’s World. What made it for me is when they did Bohemian Rhapsody in the little car , the actor who played Garth didn’t know the lyrics so at the end of the song so he just opened and closed his mouth a few times and they left it in the film. It’s hilarious. 😂😂.

Rare times were the 80s

be excellent to each other

To me I have always know Reeves to be an excellent Hollywood actor who acts mainly action movies and thrillers, this particular film looks like a comedy film to me and Reeves acting as an idiot person will really makes this film interesting for his fans to watch @gooddream

Omg!
To be honest, I don't want to know this.
I like Keanu in Speed and the Matrix.
