They all had a familial bond with her but the grief you see in Han's face is his knowledge that his son Ben was the cause of her abandonment. Yes she lost her childhood and it was Ben's fault. Though she was too young to remember.
I think it was Han that maybe had to abandon her on Jakku. Or at least he suspected that she was there. He sounds pissed at himself that the Falcon was there and he missed it.
And Leia thought the daughter of Luke was dead until she sensed Rey through the Force and knew only his daughter could bring him back. All his self exile is now in vain.
And the look on Luke's face when she shows up. Its pain. He spent all this time away trying to protect her and now its in vain because she will follow in his footsteps anyway.
Plus she is mechanical. Anakin Trait.
She is an awesome pilot. Anakin Trait.
She is a natural leader. Skywalker Trait.
She is Force sensitive. Skywalker Trait.
Her and Kylo defiantly fight like siblings but there is no recognition in either of them. So that ones a tossup.
There is one thing that has been bugging me. Maybe you can help me out. At the end of the sequence in the basement of Maz's cantina. When she falls back out into the hall after finding the lightsaber. There is a whisper at the end of the audio. I can't make it out. Tried looping it and still can't hear it. Too many years working on loud ass harleys. But someone or something whispers something. And its not Maz or Rey.
Excellent post. Dammit I can't wait till December 15th. My son is 9 and its awesome getting to relive the Star Wars experience with him. He loved The Force Awakens and Rogue One. I loved both of them and getting to watch them with him in the theater. Priceless.

I do know that Abrams spliced together sound from the previous movies so there is so Ewan McGreggor Obi Wan as well as Alec. I will have to listen closely later.

By the way, I enjoyed the story and when it comes to flying the plane, I always become excited because I always wanted to do it but could not so it is burnt desire inside me but reading stories of it gives me the same pleasure.
The one thing that has me sold is when Han and Maz are sitting down she goes, " who's the girl?" And Han gets ready to say something and the camera switches to another scene. I think at this point he says, "Maz, she's mine." If you look at his expression it looks as if he sheepishly going to talk family. Awesome post! I walked away from the skywalker link for a while but I have come back to it recently. It's similar to the Legends material where it was the solo twins. The son went dark and the daughter was light. The original script was supposed to take that angle. So, that's why I think Rey is a skywalker. Thanks!

I would love it if Rey were Leia and Han's daughter. I'm still disappointed that their other child turned out to be such a dud. And still disappointed in Han's death -- there are so many better ways that story line could have been handled. This just felt way too predictable. But that's an entirely different rant.
So I would love for Rey to be Han's daughter. And an even better twist would be finding out that Kylo Ren actually isn't his son. 🙂
I was actually very happy with the Han Solo death scene. But... I was watching the movie 100% through my 10 year old (at the time) son's eyes.
It was predictable to adults. But my son never saw it coming. Anything else may have been too confusing for kids. Think of how simple the original Star Wars was. Adults get annoyed by predictability, kids crave it.... to a certain extent.
That's a good point. Although I think it would have been more interesting if he'd had to kill Leia instead, since she's the one with the Jedi bloodline. And it would have been a nice twist to bring in the mother/son relationship as opposed to the father/son relationship.
As an adult, I find it hard to buy that Kylo Ren has chosen the dark side because of his grandfather. It's like, doesn't he know that Luke saved Darth from the dark side at the end of the original series? You'd think that would be a pretty big part of the family history to pass down. Lol! However, I'm far from an expert on the subject so could very well be missing something.
Since it's J.J. Abrahms, we'll probably never know, just get teases that make us think we're closer and closer before throwing us off in different directions. Good analysis, though.
