Not what it could have been.
The idea behind the movie isn't bad, and yes it has been done before. I however held out some hope that it was going to be better than what I was expecting given the actors involved. They unfortunately aren't helped by some of the dialogue in the film, it starts out well enough, and then seems to fall back into a Hollywood "cookie cutter" film. Nothing new or original, it should be used as an example of how not to repeat the same formula and expect anything other than average.
It is set in the not too distant future where most people work to essentially exist. There main reason people keep going is to win the "lottery". The lottery isn't for monetary gains but rather a ticket to the last unpolluted paradise there is, an island.
We have Lincoln Six Echo and Jordan Two Delta, they start to develop feelings for each other despite the strict protocols against such things. When Jordan wins the lottery Lincoln does what he can to learn about the Island, and what he learns is that it may not be the paradise everyone believes. So now he has to convince Jordan of what he thinks he knows and save her from "paradise".
