Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘2.0’ is touted to be one of the biggest movies in the history of Indian cinema. While the first look and the audio of the movie have already created waves of excitement, fans are eagerly awaiting a visual treat.
Going by the first look stills, the official making-of videos, the working stills and the unfinished teaser of the film, which got leaked recently, it looks like director Shankar's film is about radiation caused due to mobile phone usage and it's side effects.
The leaked teaser shows birds circling around cell phone towers and mobile phones flying off from the shelves of a showroom. This, coupled with Bollywood star Akshay Kumar's first look of a mutant bird in the film, suggests that film is about cell phone tower radiation that has caused some adverse effects on birds. The tag line of the film, 'The world is not only for humans' also supports this speculation. Is the film then like 'Planet of the Apes', with birds taking revenge on humans?
In the leaked teaser, a digital face of Akshay Kumar appears with a bunch of mobile phones, and director Shankar might have taken inspiration from 'I-Robot', in which the VIKI (Virtual Interactive Kinetic Intelligence) takes control of all the robots. In this case, Akshay Kumar seems to be taking control of all the cell phones and launching an attack on humans.

The teaser of Shankar’s magnum opus 2.0, starring Rajinikanth, was leaked on Sunday morning much to the outrage of several stakeholders. The leak led to several questions being asked as to how the teaser was leaked. But it now seems that the unfinished trailer was, reportedly, screened at the birthday party of Lyca Production’s chief K.Subaskaran. The Europe distributor of the film Karanshann has claimed that the teaser was allegedly screened at the party, hence leading to the leak.
“2.0 teaser was leaked from #Subaskaran(Chairman Lyca) birthday party🎊. #2.0teaser was screend exclusively for VIPs,” he tweeted.
This is the second teaser to be leaked within a matter of just few days. Kaala, Rajinikanth’s other project with Pa.Ranjith, also faced a similar issue. The producers were forced to push the official release ahead as the leaked version went viral.
In the wake of the leak, Soundarya Rajinikanth has taken to Twitter to ask for more stringent measures, calling the act ‘heartless’. “Leaking content online before the official release should not be TOLERATED or ENCOURAGED ! The shooting for the movie 2.0 started way back in 2015. Since then there has not been a strict word by the makers about the release. So far, only the first look of the movie has been released by the makers of 2.0. Within minutes of the leak, the teaser went viral and the video has been circulated on social media and Whatsapp. Calling it a “heartless act”, Soundarya Rajinikanth, filmmaker and superstar’s daughter, expressed her displeasure over the leak of teaser via her Twitter handle. “Leaking content online before the official release not be tolerated or encouraged. This is a heartless act ignoring hard work, efforts and sentiments of the makers for few seconds of excitement.”
While the makers are yet to zero in on the source of the leak, they’re planning to take strict action against those responsible for the leak. “We’re still not sure how the teaser got leaked. It’s not even the final product as it’s just a raw cut of the teaser with unfinished VFX shots. The entire team is shocked that it was recorded by someone and released online. We’re planning to take strict action against whoever that was responsible for this leak,” a source from the film’s unit told Firstpost. This is the second instance in a span of just few days that a teaser of a Rajinikanth film was leaked. Earlier this week, hours before its official release, Kaala teaser got leaked and the makers were forced to release the official teaser well ahead of the scheduled time.
Being directed by Shankar, 2.0 also stars Akshay Kumar as the antagonist, Amy Jackson, Sudhanshu Pandey and Adil Hussain. So far, the makers have only released a couple of posters and a making video. The film’s teaser is expected to be released in a grand event in Hyderabad very soon. However, the makers are yet to make an official announcement regarding the same. Recently, Shankar took to twitter to let fans know that work is currently happening on the teaser. “The teaser work of 2.0 is going on in full swing at Mob Scene, Los Angeles. It involves lot of CG (Computer Graphics), so once it is done, the teaser will be released.”
Meanwhile, the release of 2.0 has been postponed from 27 April. If the grapevine is anything to by, the team is eyeing for a 15 August release. “The VFX work is taking longer than expected because it has been distributed to many studios across the globe. The film has around 11000 VFX shots and each shot is being worked upon with lot of care. Shankar sir doesn’t want to compromise on the output; therefore, he didn’t mind missing the April release date. The team is eyeing Independence Day weekend release. The final date is still being worked out,” a source had told Firstpost.

The leaked footage which is around 44 seconds long was immediately shared by many on social media. Though there were few who were elated to get a glimpse of the Tamil superstar in the teaser, most of them were extremely unhappy by the leak.

Amid all the excitement, fans of the megastar woke up to a huge shock on Sunday after an uncut, 44-second teaser video of the highly-anticipated sci-fi thriller, 2.0, was leaked online by some miscreants. The entertainer is a sequel to Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's 2010 outing, Enthiran. The film was initially scheduled to hit the screens in January, was then pushed to April and now has been postponed further. Besides Rajinikanth, 2.0 marks the debut of Bollywood star Akshay Kumar down South. He plays an antagonist in the S Shankar directorial.
Needless to mention, the leaked clip has been going viral on the internet but apparently has been finally lifted up from social media. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to Twitter to confirm the development. While Bala tweeted that he was shocked by the leak, he also mentioned that in cases like these, filmmakers usually roll out the official teaser as a damage control measure. But it yet remains to be seen as to what action will the makers take in the direction.

The teaser of the upcoming movie Kaala was slated to release on Thursday, but will now be unveiled a day later, says producer Dhanush. The decision has been taken as a mark of respect to Jayendra Saraswathi, the 69th pontiff of the Sankara Mutt Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, who expired on Wednesday. The film is directed by Pa. Ranjith.
"Due to the demise of respected Jagadguru Poojyashri Jayaendra Saraswati Shankaracharya, as a mark of respect Kaala teaser will be released on March 2. Apologies to all the fans who were eagerly waiting for the teaser," Dhanush tweeted.

Jayendra Saraswati, who broad-based the activities of the Sankara Mutt with inclusive activities, passed away in Kanchipuram in a private hospital where he was admitted early on Wednesday. The 82-year-old pontiff was ailing for some time.
Last week, Dhanush had taken to Twitter to announce the release date of the teaser with a new poster from the movie.He captioned it as, "The news you have all been waiting for. #kaala TEASER FROM MARCH 1ST. Get ready to be in awe of our one and only Superstar’s charisma and style.
Last year during his fan interaction, Rajinikanth spoke about Kaala Karikaalan. He had talked about how different the film's gonna be and how different will this character of his be. He had said, "Pa Ranjith has shown a different Rajinikanth in Kaala, something you have not seen me do in the past. I felt really happy doing that role in Kaala. The film will release two months after 2.0. I am not sure what I am going to do after Kaala, it all lies in the hands of God."
The jigsaw puzzle of release date of Rajinikanth starrer 2.0 continues. It seems the film is headed for a potential clash with not one but two films (Thugs of Hindostan and Gold), depending on the date it picks.
Director Shankar’s ambitious film, 2.0 which stars two heavyweights -- Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar -- can’t settle on its release date. It has zeroed in on two dates -- August 15 and Diwali. However, both these dates will have two other big films releasing -- Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan (Diwali) and Akshay Kumar’s Gold (Independence Day).
Lyca Productions, the company behind 2.0, realises that big films clashing is hardly healthy and have hence initiated talks with Aamir, reports Bollywood Life.
According to the report, the Dangal star is not in a mood to budge.
Aamir, the report says, feels that Diwali is the right time to release Thugs of Hindostan. Bollywoodlife.com quoted a source saying, “The makers want to release 2.0 during Diwali, so they tried to discuss things with Aamir Khan as his movie - Thugs of Hindostan is scheduled to release on the same day. However, Aamir said a resounding no when they first approached him. The actor feels Diwali is the perfect time to release Thugs and hence, he is holding on to the date.”
The talks between the two parties stalled for a while but resumed after Rajinikanth intervened. The source further added, “After Rajinikanth made a call, the talks have resumed and both Lyca and Aamir along with Yash Raj Films are figuring if something can be done.”
It may be recalled that Rajinikanth and Lyca Productions had graciously vacated the Diwali slot last year for Aamir’s Secret Superstar. It remains to be seen if Aamir will return the favour this year.
If Shankar’s film releases on August 15, then it will be ‘Akshay versus Akshay’ at the box office.
Earlier this year, there were rumours that Akshay Kumar’s PadMan and 2.0 would release on the Republic Day weekend. That problem got averted after the 2.0 makers decided to postpone their film’s release to April 2018. It’s another matter that PadMan (which finally released on February 9) had to postpone its release and make way for Padmaavat.
