If you saw my post about thee book "1001 movies you must see before you die". You'll know that I am atempting to watch all 1001 movies. This is my review of The Great White Silence (movie #22)
The Great White Silence
The Great White Silence follows Capt. Robert F. Scott on his journey from Lyttleton, NZ to become the first man to set foot on the South Pole.
With a combination of shots from far away, closeups of the explorers and an animated map of their movement this movie shows the journey these people had really well. Although this documentary can feel a little long at times because of the surrounding that never really changes because most of the movie is them walking around in the freezing cold of the South Pole. Also note that this movie is tying to be very informal and educational so there are a lot of title cards, more than what the average movie would have.
This movie wasn't bad at all, it greatly showed their journey to the South Pole. I probably won't watch it again though, but that is most documentaries for me. Nevertheless if you have any interest in documentaries, or early exploration even silent films make sure to check out this one.
Score: 6/10
