1001 movies before I die: Update 1

in #movies7 years ago (edited)

If you saw my post about thee book "1001 movies you must see before you die". You'll know that I am atempting to watch all 1001 movies. This is the first of many updates to come.

Update 1

After watching a couple of movies and giving my review of them I though I would make a update post. I will come out with more updates as I watch more movies.

So far I have watched 13 movies in total. They have all be silent movies as I am trying to get them out of the way fist. These movies include:

A Trip to the Moon
The Great Train Robbery
The Birth of a Nation
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
The Phantom Carriage
Nosferatu, a Symphony of Terror
Sherlock, Jr.
The Gold Rush
Surise
The Docks of New York
An Andulusian Dog
Steamboat Bill, Jr.
The Man with the Movie Camera

Before all of this I hadn't really delved into silent movies that much, the only movie of the silent ones that I had watched was A Trip to the Moon, I had heard of alot of the others but I had no real intention of watching them. But here we are. I've  watched 13 silent movies in 6 days. More than I ever would have done had it not been for this book.

So what has my experience been watching these movies with a lack of audio? It's been both good and bad. I've actually enjoyed some of the movies. I would probably have to say that my favorite movie so far is The Docks of New York (which I have yet to review, along with others). I've found less enjoyment out of some of the older movies. My least favorite so far would probably have to be The Birth of a Nation because of it's 3 hour runtime, The Phantom Carriage is a close second.

Yes I've found some enjoyment out of this, but in reality I just want it to be over becuase only watching movies with no audio is becoming tedious at this point. Not saying i'm gonna every movie, but watching one silent movie after the other isn't really my version of fun.

Anyways I hope you enjoyed my little update. I'll keep watching the movies in the book and keeping you up to date as to where how far i've gone and what I think of each movie.

Cheers
