Movie Review - 300

in #movies6 years ago

"King Leonidas of Sparta and a force of 300 men fight the Persians at Thermopylae in 480 B.C."

I am a big fan of epic larger than life movies. Troy, Gladiator, and Braveheart are among my favorites.

300 is the first movie I saw with Gerad Butler, who I have since become a big fan of. I believe this is Zack Snyder's best-directed movie.

Trailer

300 is the story of 300 Spartan warriors standing against 300,000 attacking soldiers. As unbelievable as it sounds, the story is amazing following King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) from childhood to King.

The filming techniques and unique narration in 300 are legendary. Spartans are a tough and powerful race, and they will not go down easily.

"The world will know that free men stood against a tyrant, that few stood against many, and before this battle was over, even a god-king can bleed."
- King Leonidas

I have yet to find a movie that has challenged 300 in my top spot for epic movies.

Facts about the history of the famous battle

The famous battle took place back in 480 B.C. and is referred to as the Battle of Thermopylae. There was more like 7,000 Greeks who fought on the side of the Spartans and although history says there was over 1,000,000 Persians, it was more likely around 100,00-150,000. The battle lasted around seven days and Leonidas stayed to defend with 300 Spartans and 700 Thespians while the rest retreated.

One of my favourite movies!

Very entertaining movie. I loved the cinematic effects. The real battle of Thermopylae probably wasn't as dramatic, but no doubt equally as brutal.

i think im torn between this and watchmen as my favourite from snyder movies, but yeah, i really dig 300 :D

....and now you are making me want to re-watch it :D thanks :D :D :D

"This is Sparta!"

I've watched a youtube video describing how the Spartans fought against that huge army, and it was basically as the movie describes, they were able to kill many doing a shield wall, and the only reason they were defeated and didn't hold the line longer was because they were surrounded...Have you watched the second movie? The ones with ships? It's really cool too!!

Best movie ever :D

I watched some show on the history channel that pointed out the historical inaccuracies in that movie and for some reason, I was surprised. That was the day I realized I am retarded. Good ass movie though.

There is a lot of Hollywood in the movie, but it was still an insanely epic stand off.

As a child, watched the movie "300 Spartans." I really liked him.

Movies like Braveheart and 300 should be required. Here is a funny parody that @happymoneyman did to battle the spam farmers here!

A good supplemental read I would recommend would be "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield. It was on the Marine Corps Commandants reading list back when I was in and enjoyed it.

300 is definitely one of my favorite all time movies.
