My MRCPUK & IRELAND PART 1 EXPERIENCE
Dr MUHANAD ARAKI Sudan
I toke part 1 MRCP UK and Ireland in may 2016 and pass them both
Here I want to share my experience for both perhaps it may help u in way or another

In a nutshell my total preparation period was 3 months while working full time as medical resident ( SHO ) in a busy hospital ( KFSH , Tabuk , KSA ) with some days without any studying but full time revising at the last 2 weeks preexam
I studied MRCP only note ( Sudanese book ) 3 times ( 2ed combined with passmedicine ) , passmedicine Qs 2 times and onexam Qs 60 % all offline
I solved the last 4 MRCPUK 1 exams from MRCPrevision online
the note gave me solid background to build on . passmedicine make me consolidate my note learning . onexam was the most helpful regarding real exam style
now that u know my prep let us take in details about real exam for both

MRCP Ireland toke place in Riyadh in 4th may it was the first MRCPI exam computerized but it wasn’t a problem for me because I passed step 2 ck in 2014 witch make me sort of skilled in computerized exam and time management , any way it was 100 Qs in 3 hour , time was fair to me but u can see obviously that exam is not will structured more from some system less from other , Qs was v tricky with convoluted answers , more than half of the exam depend on ur skills to exclude other option and most of the time u end up with 2 probable answer but u make one of them more likely
the real problem with this exam that there is no will known material to depend on
but for me onexam was the best , note and passmedicine come least

MRCPUK was in 10th may in Riyadh also , first paper was v tough but unlike MRCPI at the end of most Qs u feel comfortable with only 1 answer or u don’t u don’t have any clue , 2ed paper bring us some relieve with some direct Qs like 25% ( the kind of Q u have good grasp of the answer before u finish the Q )
Generally it was well distributed between systems but different from old UK exams they try there best to make it unusual and I think they generally increase the exam difficulty
For UK all was sort of helpful ( onex, passm, note ) although I don’t think one source is enough and plzz it will be more safe if u add passtest , many of my friend who pass part 1 from first trial recommend it
General tips to pass both
Most important STAY AWAY from criticizing people and any one who discourage u from reaching ur goal
More important than source that u have chosen to study from , take time to know about core concepts of disease , to consolidate ur knowledge well enough that u have common concepts and topics at ur finger tip
Work in ur time management ( v vital ) , try to solve as much as u can in randomize mode with less time window
Build a strong stamina , prepare ur self to live in doubt most of the exam and go to next Q without eating ur self up
Finally golden rule NO STUDYING FOR 24 HOUR BEFORE EXAM it will confuse u , try to take a rest before the marathon and sleep well and Relax it is it just an exam and u will kick the shit out of it .
GOOD LUCK
