Todd is once again afflicted with a medical condition that could kill him at any time, and is happy again. He completes his script, and it's produced to great acclaim. Hollywood buys the movie rights, and Todd is a huge success as a writer.
Francesca received a Federal Express envelope with the key to a safe deposit box inside. She found a large sum of money in the box, spent it wildly and foolishly and is reduced to a filthy street hooker.
Dad has lots more to complain about and nag about, and so is very happy. He sends Todd revisions of his will in which Todd's inheritance is conditioned on the plot of his current screenwriting project, an adaptation of John Barth's novel The End of the Road.
Dan is startled into maturity by a newfound respect for his father. Dan, unlike Jane, had been terribly let down by Todd's failure in mid-career, but now admires his new success.
Jane used the life insurance buyout money wisely and creatively.
