The Grant Museum of Zoology
I met up with my friend from America last week whilst she was in London, she asked where we should visit so I checked Time Out London's article Eight museum shows to fall for this autumn and suggested the fascinating Grant Museum of Zoology.
The Grant Museum of Zoology was founded in 1828 as a teaching collection and has around 68,000 specimens. It is located in the Rockefeller Building at University College London, which is just a short walk from Euston Station and The British Museum. It is an interesting place to explore, with glass cabinets packed full of skeletons and jars of preserved specimens. Included in the collection are species that are now endangered or extinct, creatures such as the dodo, quagga and thylacine.
Preserved brains
Skulls and skeletons
The Micrarium -2300 microscope slides
Visit The Grant Museum of Zoology in London, or online at https://www.ucl.ac.uk/culture/grant-museum-zoology to find out more about their preservation and conservation of the taxidermy and skeleton specimens in their teaching collection and their ethically selected recent acquisitions.
