Hullo,
Music is really my ting and I was curious as to how some artists came up with ideas of songs/lyrics/titles. I might as well share it with whoever is interested or has time to waste :)
Mike Posner isn't necessarily the type of music I listen to, nor are pop-ish remixes of his songs (although I have nothing against them) BUT the way Posner came up with "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" was funny imo.
As he said in an interview, Posner knew Avicii and was writing a song with him in Sweden, when Avicii said he had to go to Ibiza for a concert date. Posner decided to follow him, because meh why not. While he was going back and forth between the backstage and the audience, he bumped into one dude who recognised him and asked him if he was THE Mike Posner. Having had confirmation, the stranger held a bag of pills up and asked Posner if he wanted one. Posner had the genius idea of accepting, on the basis that he had never tried that stuff before, and he got the idea from the song while he was high.
Admittedly he felt like shit when he came down from the high, and the song was supposed to convey dark emotions when Posner composed it. Yet, the remixed version turned it into a fun tune, and was up high in the top charts of many countries for weeks in a row.
I guess this really fits the cliché according to which artists find their ideas with drugs. But Posner is a lightweight, so next time we'll have a look at how the Red Hot Chili Peppers got some of their ideas back in the days when they were stoners AF.
But kids seriously, don't do drugs.
