Sokgurahm Grotto
Released in 1976, this song is about the Buddhism’s teaching that life and death or
prosperity and decline are not different but the same in essence, given that they are
nothing but phenomena applied temporarily in this world. The Sokgurahm Grotto, a modest
legacy of the glorious Silla Dynasty (57 B.C.~935 A.D.), is peacefully smiled at by
Buddha as prosperity and decline are not different but the same in essence despite that
it must have been a big sorrow to human beings

The chipmunks frequently appear with stopping the passers-by

One step upwards by another one and then there is a wide boundary

Maakdara aanukhaan yoghee guri haanaa yollotnye
막달아 아늑한 여기 굴이 하나 열렸네.
One opening of a cave is here at the cozy dead end
chikppuree ongkin hugur dullomaagun shipryuk naahaan
칡뿌리 엉킨 흙을 둘러막은 십육 [나한]*2
Sixteen Arhats who surround the cave to block the encroaching soil entangled with kudzu roots
Chaagaaun ikki sogye purun sumgyor dullryo ogo
차가운 이끼 속에 푸른 숨결 들려 오고
A bluish breath is heard in the midst of the cold moss
Yonzaaeh aanzushin nimun usum maazo zoushoraa
연좌에 앉으신 님은 웃음 마저 좋으셔라.
A figure of Buddha on a lotus throne whose smile is good as well
