REMEMBER SASHA WITH SEAN PAUL? - WHY YOU'VE HEARD LITTLE OF HER!

in #music7 years ago

In the early 2000s, Sean Paul and Sasha's 'I'm still in love with you', released on February 17 2004, was a big hit. Every birthday and school parties then won't get to a close without this jam! As at the time, it was like the most popular Jamaican dancehall, ragga track. I still recall those friends that knew the lyrics perfectly, even the Jamaican slangs, and all the dance moves. No one saw anything explicit in the video, not even our 'African parents' with prudent policies when it has to do with entertainment. This was one song that Sean Paul made his wide introduction through. Also Sasha. Of course for a reason it reached #6 in the UK, #13 in the U.S R&B chart, #14 in the Billboard Hot 100, and #1 in Mexico and poland. It became a top ten hit in Hungary, Italy, Ireland and Switzerland.wikipedia. I mean, people got interested and were eager to see what next, in the music career, will come of the duo. I particularly was interested too. Remember the video? Take a look again

But Sean Paul endeavoured to stay in the spot with the subsequent release of Imperial Blaze, Trinity, and other studio Albums. Our curiosity was furnished! He conquered the hearts of many, even, in 2012 with the release of Tomahawk Technique! I had tracks such as 'Got 2 luv you' that fatures Alexis Jordan; How Deep Is Your Love featuring Kelly Rowland; 'She doesn't mind'; on replay. I love this tracks! Not only about the Album, though, but new 'dope' look, the 'mohawk' hairdo, the fusion of some properties of house music and dancehall. It was the new thing!

Now, my point is; we've continued to see Sean Paul, we talk about him, see his music videos and concerts...everyone knows him. I recently saw one of his songs on a tv channel. So I took a keen interest into whatever that happened to Sasha! Little or nothing at all has been heard of her since 'I'm still in love with you'. I guess a lot of music lovers can relate to this inquisition. Let's see where Sasha has been:
Sasha is a Jamaican dancehall recording artist and a dj. She made her first entry with 'kill the bitch' way back while she was still in her teens. In 1998, she composed 'that sexy body' which also relatively gained good fit. Her biggest hit however, is 'I'm still in love with you' made alongside Sean Paul. She also has been featured in many albums and dance mixes including Reggae Gold 2002 and Eddie Deejay Arroyo Presents Reggaeton Party Hits.

In 2008, Sasha, born Karen Chin, said she will not perform any of the songs that made her popular hence, she became Sister Sasha. The 43 year old left the secular world for what she hoped would be a more rewarding spiritual career as a gospel singer. In 2014, she released her debut gospel album titled ‘Break Free,’ that was produced by her company Sister Sasha Ministries. “Jesus A Di Don” one of the break-out singles from the 13 song disc seems to have struck a responsive note with music fans and is creating waves on radio stations in New York, Atlanta, Florida, Jamaica and even in parts of Africa. The video for the song was released a few weeks after and is getting rave reviews as well. On an occasion she made a response to online observers as to the reason she transits to gospel music, she gave this view: "My God at no time did I mention money, this just sounds personal because the responses just doesn't match up. My brothers and sisters please read the article carefully before u judge me. My songs are still playing all over the world and promoters are calling for me to perform in Europe, Africa and Dubai. I stand firm on the solid rock and refuse those shows. If I wanted fame or money I would stay in secular music. God has been opening some doors for me and I am grateful and I get so much love from so many deejays on the radio stations. All I was trying to say is there is really no unity and no support from some of the Ministers that has been on this journey long before me and in the early stages of my journey I felt like a little fish thrown in the big ocean and I had to teach myself to swim to keep my life..." Sista Sasha

If you've ever wondered whatever happened to Sasha (now sister Sasha) after the big entry with Sean Paul...? Well, she decided she leaves secular music and it's accompanying fame, denied herself popularity, and makes gospel music.
