MHKmusic update Jan. 23 – Jan. 29

Three reasons last week was highly encouraging:

There was too much music for one person to see it all. Trust me, I tried.
The crowd turnout for the events I went to was excellent (with lots of new faces)!
I learned about yet another house venue that I didn't know existed. (See below for details on their show this week)

MHKmusic is on the up and up! Now is not the time to complain about what we don't have, but to appreciate and support what we DO have, so the scene can grow into it's full potential.

We kicked off the week with Charlie Roberts, and then Jade Archetype at Auntie Mae's. The show was a benefit aiming to collect donations for the DAPL protests at Standing Rock. The benefit was organized by Colleen Bilzing, who is also a highly talented photographer (see below).

On Thursday night Rich Yarges and the Pop Mechanics gave us a tune up along with Dave Spiker and Headlight Rivals as part of their 4 stop I-70 corridor tour.

Friday the Manhattan Arts Center continued their Birdhouse Series with Luke Winslow-King a highly regarded blues artist out of New Orleans. I am still kicking myself for missing this one.

Saturday was All Day Live Music at Sisters of Sound Record Shop and it was a huge success! Not only were the musical acts on top of their game, but there was a constant rotation of audience (aka customers) throughout the day. It was great to see the local community come out and support local business, and local artists.

There was a lot more music than what I've mentioned, including country acts, Air Supply and more, but why dwell on the past when you can look to the future? Checkout the images below and then continue scrolling for the MHKmusic events coming up next!

Thursday 1/26:

@9:00pm Tyler Gregory w/ Sons of the Republic at Auntie Mae's Parlor

Hailing from the rolling hills of Kansas, Tyler Gregory can regularly be found performing with his steam-powered melodies. Gregory's mix of blues and roots music howls with a sense of passion and freedom. This songcrafter takes the cues and lifestyle from WWII-era blues bellowers and drives full force on his guitar/banjo/stomp-box live performance arrangements.

Friday 1/27:

@8:00pm Party w/ The Broken Spoke Band at RC McGraws

There will be live music and dancing at RC McGraws when The Broken Spoke Band comes to town. Expect Country, Classic Rock, Blues and
Southern Rock.

Saturday 1/28:

@7:00pm Bob and Diana Suckiel at Lakeside Music

Bob and Diana Suckiel have been performing together for four decades. Their music focuses on preserving the nation’s folk music legacy in the tradition of Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie and the labor, civil rights and peace movements. Their performances include “Old Time Music” about cowboys, depression-era hobos, railroad workers and tales of ordinary people conveyed via narrative songs passed down from generation to generation.
