Bands I really Loved: Thin Lizzy

in #music7 years ago (edited)

Thin Lizzy originally formed in late 1969 , Brian Downey on Drums, Phil Lynott Bass Guitar, Lead Vocals and Most of the Songwriting. 2 Albums without any Hits , Eric Bell on Guitar . Phil was very laid back on stage. ( not a good thing for the Vocalist)

Toward the end of '72 they got a break when thy went on tour opening for Slade, however after their first Performance, Slade's Manager told Phil, that if he did not show more stage presence they would be off the tour!

Happy to say he changed overnight, Early '73 , they had their first top ten hit with Whiskey in the Jar. A traditional Irish song.

Eric Bell Departed and was replaced by Gary Moore and was, in turn, replaced with Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham,

the start of that Magical Dual Lead Guitar Sound that Lizzy did better than anyone else!

Thin Lizzy in '76 released the Jailbreak album that caused things to really take off for them!

They did several World Tours with quite a few Successful Albums, Many Personnel Changes, Drugs, started to take its toll.

Unfortunately Phil became another Heroin addict ( seedy looking characters hanging around back stage)

Just listen and watch the variety on these masterpieces of a Musicians art!

In the early eighties all these matters came to a head and Lizzy Split.

Phil collaborated with his Friend Gary Moore on another Album , My Son Wayne bought me the album that Christmas, I have featured a live performance from it hereafter.

Phil died from Drug Related causes on the 4th of January 1986 , he was 35 years old!

There is a statue of him in Harry Street in Dublin.

I have added a link from my own Rockstar Series posted for me by@gavvet when I first got onto Steemit.

Why this is here is because Keith Burell , a really superb SA Guitarist , ( mentioned in this post)when he qualified as a Dentist.

His Dad bought him a ticket to the UK , where he was in the Front row of a Lizzy Concert!

Exact words " Alan, here they were in the middle of a complicated Harmony Guitar Solo, Scott walks over to Brian, Told him a joke in his ear,. Brian starts laughing. They did not miss a note!"

Keith said he, for a moment there, felt like throwing his Les Paul away.

Love to hear to sounds of the past. Didn't know Thin Lizzy myself, maybe I was just to young. Guess only in the early to mid 80s I started to discover music.

Time does march on, In a Few Years the Current Bands will be in the Past! Thanks.

Sure sure :) But we shall and will not forget what is good today :) In my posts here on Steemit I make a mix between todays or more or less todays music and music from the past, from my childhood and youth. Interestingly, since I started qsounds account here on Steemit, I tend to listen again more to the older music, since it had really good stuff and it is so fun to listen to that what made my clock tick those days. Sometimes I immediately understand why I was so fond of some album, and sometimes I don't. But for sure, it brings back memories, generally the good ones! I like that :)

This is so rocking to watch !!

thin lizy is always best and i like thin very much and his music also

Thank you,

With pleasure I listened. What a pity that many wonderful musicians have died from drugs! :(

The story of a musician i never knew...
He obviously had a lot of potential that "Phil" guy... Its painful to see how so much potential goes to the grave untapped and un-maximized...

Great eulogy of a great star.... Well done!

Good songs never die even when the owner past on. Thanks for sharing...

I love these posts, please keep doing them.

Thin Lizzy is very underrated, I hear their influences in so many bands these days.

Phil is probably my favourite vocalist of all time. I don't mind that he was so laid back, to be honest I really enjoy that of him.

Vagabonds of the Western World is one of those classic albums that only gets better with time. To be perfectly honest all their albums are unique in it's own way.

Favourite song of theirs has to be The Rocker, such a feel good song.

Rest in peace Phil, another legend musician taken away way too soon. At least we will always have his phenomenal work to keep us company.

Thanks for the inspiration I love hearing sounds Ive never heard before,
