OK GO's Genius Music Video Ideas

So many colors, It's so intense!

OK GO is a band that became well known because of their creative and original music videos that they make! The music video that first launched their rock star career is the song called "Here It Goes Again". In this music video there are six treadmills that the 4 of them preform choreographed dance moves on. It became so popular that they even ended up preforming it again at the MTV Music awards. With the video currently having 37 million views, I think it is still their most viewed music video.

OK GO-The One Moment

OK Go has now done it again and created another brilliantly creative music video. It is a 4 minute long music video for their new song called "The One Moment." The most amazing thing about this music video is that mostly all of those 4 minutes are actually a super-slow-motion shot captured in just 4 seconds!

The recording of this video took such careful planning. The choreography and synchronization had to be almost perfect! I am still not fully sure how they did it. Here is a spreadsheet used to help carefully plan every step of the video shoot.

I can haz organization and so can you!

As you can see in the spreadsheet, everything was perfectly planned. Every action on screen was synchronized to all the instrumental that is happening in the song. In the spread sheet you can see the synchronizing process when "the piano melody hits" with each of the exploding colors in the beginning part of the sequence!

My only complaint is the fact that they sold out the brilliant piece of art that they created to a tacky advertisement by Morton salt at the end of the video. With a website posted at the end with the link /Walkherwalk >_< It is also interesting to note that a yellow umbrella was used at the end sequence, matching Morton salt's color and logo. I wonder how many millions it took to bribe the band to tarnish this video master piece with this ad at the end? It slightly dampened my emotional roller coaster I was on when watching this video. This is why the band leader deserves the balloons to the face like he received towards the end!

bad band leader, take the punishment you deserve!

That being said this is unlike anything I have ever seen before. This video is a true work of art that was create with one great idea and had amazing resolve to actually pull this off successfully! I could (and have) easily watch this video multiple times to re-experience all the creative ingeniousness that was put into this. I guess the band deserves all the recognition and rewards they receive from making this video, even if it means selling out to morton salt! O_O

Your welcome, me too (obviously). Thanks for the appreciation ^_^

Haha I agree with your complaint. Is that the only way to make a kickass music video? so many millions... There was also the wall of Morton salt cans in the first shot.

Right! Very frustrating to me. There were no advertisements in there first video. I don't know, it might be the only way to make a kick ass video with high production costs. Oh wow, good eye; I did not catch that, rewatching the video now!

Very creative video shoot concept. The planning that must have went into this is remarkable.

Yeah it really is. Yeah, even with that detailed graph I still don't under stand how they did it. Did they have practice rounds?

Beats me. I took a semester of video production at UCLA but that was years ago. Things have come a long way since then.

haha, Yeah it is amazing how quickly technology changes. things change so rapidly, even more now that the internet exist!

seriously though!!!

Glad you enjoyed the video!

This is a truly amazing production indeed. What disappoints me the most is not the salt sell out but the MASSIVE amount of resources that went into this that were basically destroyed.

Not totally wasted because the video will live on but it sure would be nice to see great works of art that were actually sustainable. I look forward to a future when people with money actually care about anything besides getting more money...

Yeah, sucks when something amazing gets tainted with advertisements...... especially when they have nothing to do with the production.

Everything can be bought, everything can be sold..... Except for the people that decide that no one can put a price on the creations that they make if it will ruin the creative process and design of their art.
