Mexico Earthquake Reminds me of Christchurch Earthquake

in #music7 years ago

I wrote this song to tell a human story of the earthquake in Christchurch. I was in the spire of the Cathedral that collapsed about a week before and I was back down there a few weeks later feeling the aftershocks and the eerie silence in the entertainment district.

When it happened I had friends who were sending messages trying to find their families and many couldn't get their cars out of the rubble. Several people died and were injured and now 7 years later, many still have PTSD.

It helps me understand just a little, how people are feeling in Mexico City. My heart goes out to them. When the earth moves, you know there is no human power to stop it, then there is the human resources to rescue people as quickly as possible and search in hope for those who have not yet been found.

People from all over the world came to New Zealand to help and I'm sure the same will happen in Mexico. You can rebuild homes, but many people are psychologically damaged for years.

Today it is a city of cranes and people hoping it will not happen again. Within hours of the Mexico quake as often happen, a moderate quake occurred to the north of Christchurch but there was no damage.
