I love music...but when you walk in a store and a song is playing and it goes like this: 'Hoe lyk dit, hoe lyk dit, ek en jy nakd.... directly translated 'How looks it, how looks it, you and me nakd.' You have to cringe and hit your forehead and say 'Who the heck would sing a stupid thing like that.' Unfortunately as most of you are aware the music industry is indeed a mockery of each country. You may sing beautifully or write songs that are noteworthy and never get anywhere. But sing some crap like this and you will take off. To me Lyrics need to convey something special or at least make some kind of sense. First if your going to write an Afrikaans song, don't put English words in it. Secondly don't start the song off with slang, it sounds silly. Thirdly don't cut your words in half or leave a piece out like 'nakd' instead of naked. Fourthly have a thought of what your trying to accomplish, what audience you want to attract and decide whether you want to be known as the guy who sang the song.
Money should't take away your intellectual look, so if you sing an absolutely silly song, at-least try and have as much character as: Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen.
True words! I do love music too but I love it most when it has a deeper meaning (can be subjective). I am trying to run a weekly giveaway based on music (favorite songs, songs with certain meaning). I would really appreciate if you would like to support this idea and join in the giveaway you can find on my account.
