Hey all. Last time I blogged, I was talking about a deal I made while in Anaheim. I was offered a deal in which I’ll be making samples and loops of some slide guitar, latex on a 60 year old arch top acoustic guitar that was given to me. It once belonged to my grandfather and has been through a lot. My grandma gave it to me when I was 16 and it has seen a lot of miles. It’s in pretty bad shape and is about to implode from cracks and damage. The neck is so bowed, that the strings sit a half inch off the fretboard and the only way to play it is with a slide.
One day, I shot a video of me just messing around on this guitar, nothing I’d call spectacular, but it caught the attention of a producer friend of mine and he has been after me to record it for real and make a loop pack with it.
While I was at NAMM, he made me an offer and I accepted to take on the task. Monday was the first day of recording and things got off to a pleasant start. I had a cheap mic set up at first, hoping tonmakebit sound crappy and lo fi, but all that I got was a lot of noise. Today, I broke out the expensive mic and got some great takes.
I’m hoping that my next session, I’ll set up my camera and just let roll with me banging out takes on this old guitar.
Thanks for checking this out and I know I should be adding pics, and one day, when I figure that out, I will. See you all soon.
