These days in Europe, especially Southern Europe (I am based in Italy) there is a lot of hysteria about refugees coming by sea from Africa and the Middle East. It’s a huge ongoing humanitarian crisis which triggers logistics, security, sanitary, financial challenges. Europeans are afraid. Some countries want to build walls.
Ok, it's lots of challenges, but let us not forget that
Refugees are PEOPLE. Like us.
Not quite, in fact…they are much more DESPERATE than us.
They are like us in the sense that all they want is to have a good life, raise their children, work, live and perform. Many of them are very intelligent, educated, talented.
Check out this guy: 19-year-old Syrian refugee, currently in Greece, aspiring rapper. I think he’s very good. He could be from NYC. Or London. Instead, he’s Syrian and needs protection.
And this is his rap.
Also, here is a short movie where he tells his story.
I hope we will respect and protect all the talents, passions, and life that come to us from across the Mediterranean Sea.
