Well, I bid you all a Happy New Year everyone. A couple of days late, I know.... but life continues to showcase its struggles, and I can only say that I am happy to be back on here, even if just for a couple of posts before I must unfortunately disappear again....
So let's get right down to it....
Cannibal Corpse. Need I say more? Since their very first release back in 1990 (the year I was born!!), "Eaten Back to Life", this band has not only shocked the world with their gory lyrical content and album imagery, as well as exceptionally amazing style of death metal, they have also paved the way for all death metal bands as we know it, and to try to debate such an undeniable fact would be foolish.
Which brings us to this brand new masterpiece, having been released only back in November. "Red Before Black" has truly (already!) marked its place as a staple in the band's career, and with no shortage of surprises up its respective musical sleeve.
Firstly, a lot more songwriting credit has been coming from guitarist Rob Barrett, who joined the band back in 1993, then again in 2005. While many other credits for songeriting have gone to guitarist Pat O'Brien, drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz and bassist Alex Webster, Barrett has been showing more and more potential as a member, introducing some solid writing that could be compared to the groove-inspired style infamous with original guitarist Jack Owen, who is now alongside original CC vocalist Chris Barnes in Six Feet Under.
Secondly, I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but this new album really seems a bit musically different than most of their work in the past.... giving it a bit more of a thrashy vibe to it, more so than their usual techy death metal style we have come to know and expect from O'Brien's songwriting. Regardless, that is no complaint on my part. I, for one, am thrilled to see them and hear them take on a slightly different and slightly more groovy approach to their music. Very impressive indeed!
Here, take a listen for yourself!!!!
"Only One Will Die" (feat. Erik Rutan of Hate Eternal, and formerly of Morbid Angel)
"Red Before Black"
"Code of the Slashers"

Till next time, Steemians.

of course, legendary band/// but this album... for me it isnt so hard as usual... dont know, maybe its only my privat point of view. my rating 4/5
Oh, I completely agree. Like I said, it does give off a thrashy sound as opposed to their usual death metal sound. A very decent album given their age and how long they've been in the game, but certainly not my favorite album from them by any means.
