Playing with my 1980 Roland TR-808 Drum Machine / Rhythm Composer !!

in #music6 years ago

Here I am playing a little bit with the drum machine that revolutionized music back in the '80s, the Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer. This great music device was used in thousands of songs all over the world, but not only during the decade of 1980; it was also used during the 90's and beyond (until our days).

The Iconic Marvin Gaye's song "Sexual Healing" was recorded in 1982 with this great machine, just to name one, but band's like Radiohead used the following model, the awesome TR-909, in "Kid A" and "Amnesiac" albums (released in 2000 and 2001 respectively).

Nearly 40 years later and still sounding so fresh and modern, is just something so hard to believe!

This TR-808 had modern (and cheaper) versions, like the one recently produced by ROLAND, the TR-8S. Some others based on this machine can be found out there, but Roland is ROLAND!! You know what I'm saying? ;)

Here you can hear the original vintage TR 808. Analog sound & cool vibes all around!!

It's amazing how easy to use is this machine is, while almost infinite combinations can be done. Every chip inside this beast was made to be enjoyed!

Thanks Roland for this great contribution to music!!

Hope you enjoy the video, thanks for watching.

I regret selling my 808 and 909 so much, but food was more important at the time!

Aahah!! I know what you are talking about 'cause I had the same problem many times... and it sucks so bad!!! Recently, I had to sell my 1976 Yairi acoustic guitar (all solid woods) and now, mostly any other acoustic guitar I play, sounds to me like a can of tuna fish with strings attached. Life is tough, but music makes it so much better.

Well said!
