Musicians Best Options For Uploading Podcasts & Mixes Containing Other Artists Music — Blockchain & Centralized Platforms

What is a DJ Mix or a Mixtape ?

A DJ mix or a Mixtape is a sequence of other artists music or original music typically mixed together to appear as one continuous track.

Originally it the term was used to coin the Cassette tapes were DJ's used to make a continuous mix of non stop music and showcase their DJ and Mixing abilities, but later after the cassettes hype faded out, especially with the introduction of CD's and MP3's to the market but the name 'Mixtape' remained used til date for any medium collection of music put together as a compilation sort of without the need of mixing abilities and DJ skills.

DJ mixes are usually performed using DJ equipments like a DJ mixer and multiple sounds sources, like turntables, CD players and such and sometimes with the addition external music equipments like samplers and effects units.

Copyrights

Copyrights can be an issue when you want to post your DJ mixes using other artists music online was it to promote your DJ skills or as a give back to your followers and supporters or to use for a Demo to pitch for performing in clubs, festivals and such...

Current Issue

With the problems people are having with their mixes on plaforms like Soundcloud and YouTube.

SoundCloud has been suspending accounts, and YouTube will mute, delete your audio and even delete your accounts! So Copyrights are real issue when you're using mixes with music that you do not own.

Alternative Solutions on Decentralized & Centralized Platforms

Decentralized Platforms (The Blockchain)

I could have named a few but I'm just going to name one that works for me.

Dsound.audio by @prc

DSound.audio til now i find it to be the place for 'uploading and hosting' your DJ Mix, Podcast show or any medium that contains music from other artists.

As for streaming platforms i will be talkin about that in my next series of DJ Tips.

Dsound is a decentralized web application developed in Javascript and React, it allows anyone to upload, listen and discover music the beauty of it that It uses the STEEM blockchain so by uploading your music on Dsound it will also post on Steemit and you can earn rewards in STEEM cryptocurrency.

Also Dsound.audio allows you to post your Podcast, DJ Mixes or Mixtapes for Free and you don't have limitations on the blockchain like you have on the Centralized platforms..

Centralized Platforms

I could have named a lot but I'm just gonna name one! And that is Mixcloud

I do believe that it's probably the best option you have out there from my personal experience on regular centralized platforms and they are legit as they've been around for quite some time.

Also I prefer sometimes SoundCloud for a couple of reasons and the most important reason is when I wanted people to be able to download my mixtapes, were Mixcloud is strictly streaming. I use both because I wanted to take advantage of all the top outlets that were out there.

Only issue i have is SoundCloud have a limited amount of space to host your music unless you pay a fee and upgrade your storage space to be able to upload more.

With that said i do use Soundcloud for enabling my supporters and followers to Download and Mixcloud for my DJ mixes Streaming.

Recommendations

I'm personally fully migrating all my musical work to the blockchain, I started this process around 3 months ago when i learned about Steemit and the Blockchain.

To mention a few blockchain music platforms varying from Dsound, Dtube, to Musicoin and soon Dlive. I'm seeing and experiencing personally on the blockchain a much wider scope of better solutions and opportunities to reach your crowd and make a lot more revenue from your music then having your music or mixes on the common Centralized platforms.

Conclusion

With that said if you just want to have your Podcats or DJ Mixes out there on the normal centralized platforms then i advise you to use Mixcloud as it is probably your best option to post your mixes without the hassle of having your mixes or podcasts taken down.

Mixcloud is Free and has no issues with mixes being taken down or accounts being suspended that i'm aware of, because you add your 'Tracklist' with every Mix you Upload so they can recognize the songs, also the have made deals with labels and when your stuff is played and revenue is made it's being shared with the labels and the artists so that's all worked out.

I would love to hear your views on this subject and what platforms are you currently using to upload your DJ Mixes or Podcasts that contains music of other artists? Any recommendations ?Let me know in the comment box below.

Kudos & Peace

Dsound is the only platform that allows to host like DJ mixes and remixes without having them being taken down, as long as u are the owner of the content shared ur good and always great to lin the source. Looking forward to hear ur stuff, Kudos on the support!
