Shaggy Vs Marley

in #music5 years ago

One of the most well known reggae artists in the world is of course Bob Marley.

To this day he continues to sell records and in total he has sold more than 75 million records. Even though he has been gone for years now, in 2019 he was still one of the top selling vinyl record options.

Marley managed to make it into the top 10 list for vinyl records that got sold last year.

An arguably much lesser known reggae artist, Shaggy, has previously insisted that he has sold more records than Marley, but still you might say that he doesn't have even a glimpse of the recognition that Marley has received in all these years.

I've sold more units on any single recording than even the great Bob Marley - Shaggy

It might come as a surprise, to many who are more familiar with Bob Marley than they might be with any of the music that Shaggy has put out over the years.

And still, neither of them are the most successful Jamaican artist of all time, that title today rests with Sean Paul.

For Paul's contributions to promoting reggae music around the world, he earned himself the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Commander Class, which is the 6th highest honor within Jamaica's Orders of Societies of Honor.

Sean has had an impact on the broadened acceptance for reggae music that cannot be denied, though still some might say that it hasn't been as notably influential as Bob Marley.

How long until we might see a Sean Paul or a Shaggy museum on the island?

Maybe the reason the others don't seem to have been as influential in the minds of millions is because Bob Marley arguably had shared more of a meaningful message with his art than either Sean or Shaggy have done with their careers.

Bob Marley is the classic artist when you think of Reggae Music, you broke the mold and popularized the movement......Sean Paul added his blend, with solo tunes and combines with other famous artists, such as Enrigue and Pitbull. Shaggy added his unique talent and made his own music, in a reggae genre. I like them all, always on my Spotify

Personally, If i will rank them, I will choose Bob Marley first, then Sean Paul second and Shaggy 3rd. Respect to all of them anyway.

i think i have the same order list as you, marley always top hah

There will be no artist who can overcome what is essentially achieved by Marley, the economy, the social situation, much less the population are the same, Bob did not have the ease of spreading his music on networks such as Instagram, Twitter or YouTube and even So he managed to expand reggae all over the world.

that is a great point, very true his talent knew no bounds even without those tools

MARLEY has my vote
for
what it’s worth.
But the truth be
known, I prefer
ALL the music of his offspring.
And now grandchildren.
But he was the first and #1.

All three are great artists who leave the reggae genre high and dry, but each has their own particular style.
For me Bob is and will remain "The King of Reggae"
