This team should listen to at least because of its star composition. Its creators are Max Cavalera (Soulfly), Troy Sanders (Mastodon), Greg Puciato (The Dillinger Escape Plan), and all three musicians are vocalists.
In 2010, Max called The Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato to sing in the song "Rise of the Fallen" on Soulfly's album "Omen". Cooperation led to the fact that men seriously decided to continue cooperation. As a result, many demo versions of new songs were recorded in two voices. However, lack of time did not allow to continue work on the nameless project and it’s was postponed indefinitely.
At the end of 2012, Greg offered to listen to the accumulated material to vocalist Mastodon Troy Sanders. Troy liked the idea itself and, as a result, he wanted to play in the band as the third vocalist. Soon Cavalera’s schedule allowed to meeting with guys and think about the material. At the same time, a simple project name was invented - Killer Be Killed.
Actually, who plays what instrument and so clearly. Max and Greg - rhythm guitarists, Troy returned to post of bass player. Dave Elitch (The Mars Volta, Antemasque, Daughters of Mara) was invited as a drummer.
As I mentioned above, all three musicians sing alternately. This, perhaps, is the main and distinguishing feature of the first and, as yet, the only band’s album.
As for the material, it's quite interesting, but I wouldn't call it something new. All this has been heard before. It is an expected mix of groove, metalcore with successful thrash metal moves and occasionally encountered solo parts. I would also add that on some compositions, nu-metal is heard, although this is to be expected if you understand what I mean.
I want to say that despite my respect for Max, I would like to hear his growls less on records. Greg and Troy cope with the roles, and when one of them sings the song really turns into something interesting.
For lovers of the groove and heavyweight in general, I advise you to pay attention to the first half of the tracklist. By the way, the songs in the article are from there. The second part of the disc is seriously inferior in drive and, I think, will be interesting only for informational purposes.
Initially, the Killer Be Killed members wanted it to be a purely studio project. That is, no performances, they gathered exclusively for rehearsals and recording new material. But in the 15th year they played the first concert.
Despite the expectations of many, that after first recording band will fall apart, like many projects of famous musicians, last year men announced a new album. By the way, the release is scheduled for this year.
