I've always been impressed with unplugged versions.
Acoustic treatment, it would seem, had long been wiped to holes composition takes on unfamiliar shapes, opening the listener completely different sides of sounding. Here all genre predispositions are removed, taste preferences are reduced to zero and a new acquaintance with the skill of musicians begins.
A live performance and later a DVD titled "Sanctitude" by Swedish band Katatonia is one of the best creations in their discography.
And let you not be confused by the genre tags of the team, such as death/doom/dark / progressive and others – this record is interesting, melodic and like all their other creations unusually atmospheric. Quite depressing and not always easy to perceive the lyrics enveloped voluminous guitar parts, rich in dreamy solos with periodic electronic inserts, immersing the listener in the melancholic world of performers.
The concert was recorded in London (Union Chapel) as part of a tour in support of the band's record "Dethroned & Uncrowned" in 2015.
I also want to say that the place for the performance and recording of the album is perfect. Union Chapel was built in the XIX century. The building itself was built in the style of the Gothic revival, which greatly emphasized the atmosphere of music Katatonia.
The album itself is an acoustic interpretation of the Studio album "Dead End Kings" (2012). In addition to the songs from the list of the aforementioned works, "Sanctitude" also touches upon the early discography of the team and songs that were not previously performed live.
Tracklist includes 17 acoustic songs:
Since there are quite a lot of songs, I decided to introduce you to a few of them, which, in my opinion, will be able to hook and please the listener, unfamiliar before with the work of musicians.
The concert opens "In the White".
For me personally, was a big surprise replayed on acoustic version song "Day" from the album "Brave Murder Day", recorded back in 1996 to year. This version was previously heard at the concerts of Katatonia.
Heartfully sung composition, in the lines which listener imperceptibly dissolve, especially when he reached the chorus.
And "Undo You":
"Lethean":
I have always considered acoustic concerts to be the internal growth of any band, if you will, the transition to a higher level of skill and if you decide to listen and watch the concert album Katatonia "Sanctitude" – in front of you waiting for eighty minutes of unforgettable emotions and lyrical experiences.
Fans of really high-quality music and live performance should definitely get acquainted with the concert Sanctitude. It's an unforgettable performance.
Lovely
