1976-1980 is a tough time for the English economy and this is also felt in Manchester's industrial center. The band describes the hard times they live in, the isolation, the songs are combinations of Ian's sad and inspirational lyrics and the music of others. Joy Division recorded "Unknown Pleasures" in 1979 and he received the attention of the English audience. The band makes a tour with Buzzcocks and so members can leave their previous work (Ian works in a workplace for people with mental health problems). Producer Martin Hammet, who manages to help the band to tour and appear on TV, has been involved in defining their sound. He mixes the album, and despite the desire of the members for a heavier sound, it gives a more atmospheric and with dark feeling. Live musicians continue to play more aggressively and decisively. On April 16, 1979, Ian's Natalia's daughter was born. At that time the vocal understands that he suffers from epilepsy. He starts to take medication, but is warned about their side effects such as drowsiness, bleeding gums, etc. Physicians also advise him to observe a regimen that does not include late bedtime, activities related to bright and rapidly changing lights and sharp sounds. However, Ian can not abandon his group and begins to get convulsed. Several times he gets seizures on the stage. His dances resembling hypnotic parabons known as dead fly are also associated with Paul Morley's disease. However, this also creates difficulties for the group during their tours in Europe.
Good choice... I really enjoyed their music. Love will tear us apart.
I am really digging this. They sound like a mixture of U2 and Type O Negative. The basslines especially are incredible.
Joy Division have a really great influence on the music after them, and they only existed for 2-3 years. They have only two albums and that is really something interesting By the way Joy division are before U2 and Type O negative. :)
Really love Joy Division, good choice
