Hello everybody! This is my first ever top ten list and my first ever blog for STEEMIT! WHAT A HISTORIC DAY!!!! To celebrate I give you 10 musical gems that will have your ears buzzzzzzzing to the sonic ambrosia of 2017
Tripp Rezac – On My Way Here - American rock country anthems and storytelling mastery with a satirical wink. If you’ve seen Trip live you know he should be a legend on a fucking stamp. And now that he’s finally in his 50’s he has released his debut album. Witness the greatness…
Run the Jewels - 3 - These guys are the best rap duo since Outkast and somehow they improved on their past work. Production is sick, rhymes are ridiculous and Zach De La Roche from Rage Against the Machine fame finishes the album with an uncredited vicious verse. Forget it…
Mexican Pharmacy – Fear n Loadin in Merica - It’s been a long time since we’ve heard something this fresh and exciting! A pallet of hip hop meets electronic madness with an Beastie Boy influenced MC who you sometimes literally hear giggling as he waxes this poetic absurdity. Yeah, I’m talking about myself, but if you don’t love yourself who will? A glorious icing on this wonderfully fucked up sonic cake.
LCD Soundsystem - American Dream The pioneers of electro punk are back with an album that’s as addictive as anything they’ve ever done. The Talking heads rhythms and EDM influence is again all over this, but it’s the dream pop tracks “Baby” and the title track that keeps getting better and better with repeat listens.
Thundercat – Drunk - This album is a fat ass cat with 23 fucking tracks. It’s bloated as hell! But under a little of the redundant blubber is a sexual beast of funk, jazz and yacht rock with Thundercats jaw dropping base mastery.
Algiers – The Underside of Power - I just caught this album in the nick of time even though it’s been released of a while.
THANK GOD! Gospel vocals over post punk with some industrial flavor. What could go wrong?… NOTHING. WOW!Kendrick Lamar – Damn - I kept saying I really like this album, I even surprisingly like the U2 cameo…. but it’s just not as good he’s previous effort and my favorite Kendrick album To Pimp A Butterfly. And I kept saying that until suddenly… Is it at least as good as TPAB? Damn.
Daphni - Joli Mai - So many times I’ll hear a great electronic dance track and forget to find out who they are but with Daphni I didn’t… HALLELUHA! And it turns out Daphni is actually the guy from Caribou and this is an alter ego with more dance centric tracks. More genius stuff for sure.
Thee Oh Sees – Ork - This is the band I always forget to listen too and every time I do I smack myself in the face… They’re so damn good! Psychedelic garage rock progressive punk done to perfection!
Xiu Xiu – Forget - They’ve been around forever making experimental genius but very listenable music… AND WHY HAVEN’T I BEEN A FANATIC? Well, with this album I finally am. Can’t wait to get into their entire back catalogue! Weird ass musical butter!
