A Night With the Gorillaz

in #music7 years ago

On July 7th, 2017 I lucky enough to catch the Gorillaz in concert at Northerly Island in Chicago @ one of the very few concerts that they perform in the USA. If you are unfamiliar with Northerly Island in Chicago it's a small, and intimate venue that is located on a peninsula that lingers on the East side of the city. The Venue is outside, and surrounded by lake Michigan with immaculate views of downtown chicago. It's a very unique venue, and should be visited at one point in a person's life adventures is given the opportunity.

All in all I must say the concert in combination with the 75* weather and clear sky was a VERY pleasurable experience, BUT it was one of the oddest concerts I have ever attended. The lead singer Damon Albarn decided to use the stage as his personal venting session, and spent a good portion of the time talking to the audience, and rambling on about a bunch of nonsense that I believe only he knew the meanings behind. It very much reminded of the rants that you saw from Kanye West not to long ago. There was one time during the concert where he literally stopped the song, band, and all to have a 5 in rant before starting the same song over from the beginning. IT WAS VERY ODD !!

Listening to the Gorillaz albums and attending the concert was like the difference between night and day! All the music was played at a completely different tempo than the albums, and it was hard to make out if the songs they were playing were still the same version of the songs that we know and love. Very Strange, but oddly…...Nice..lol

One of the Key parts of the concert that was unique yet fantastic was the fact that they had an 8 piece brass band played by local Chicago artist in conjunction with songs that they played. It was very different however uniquely amazing.

Last but not least the visuals they had in the background were quite captivating. They had Animated stories playing in the background during every song that were basically telling stories and went with the rhythm of the songs essentially fueling the emotional response you were supposed to feel from each short animated clip. Pretty Cool. Also Bruce Willis decided to shoot a short video for them in a car chase scene where he was chasing and shooting at 2 of the animated characters driving another car ahead of him. I was pleasantly surprised and shocked at the same time considering the cameo he made for the Gorillaz specifically.

I have posted some pics for you to all enjoy....

(I have a ton of videos but can't quite figure out how to post them yet, but when i do I will update the post, any advise would be much appreciated ! Thanks)
