Hello guys! I'm back for the 4th song of the day.
It's something I stumbled upon while I was listening to French music on Deezer. (I usually use Spotify but I'm trying out Deezer currently to compare the two!)
Our song of the day is Billets (Bills) by Marwa Loud, a 21-year-old Frenchwoman from Strasbourg whose debut album hit #2 on the French charts last month. The music video shows her chilling with fans and friends, writing lyrics on her bed, walking out on her boring minimum wage job and finally rocking the crowd at a club. It's not my favorite song in the world, but I was drawn in by Loud's style as I will explain...

The music and lyrics are not sophisticated to say the least.
Come on, come on, let’s make a bet
Who’s the one that got co-signed in six months ?
Yeah it’s me, we don’t have the same focus
We don’t have the same flow, we won’t make them same amount of bills
And there's painfully T-Pain level of autotune...but the clip makes Loud seem down to earth. She makes funny faces and wears her hair in a messy bun in one scene. In a sense, Loud is showing her Instagram self and her Finstagram self, both when she's "on" and when she's "off." And while it is still all an act because it's a video, it's appealing for a younger generation fed up with social media personalities who try and look perfect all the time. It's also a significant contrast to female rap stars across the ocean like Cardi B and Nicki Minaj who are all about gold and diamonds and glamour and sex appeal.
"She's like us," fans Safia and Mathilde (both 30) say. "She's got the same vibe, she's super funny, and she has a great voice. And she dresses like us."
What do you guys think of Loud? Any French rap lovers out there?
