The Pain on Linkin Park's "One More Light" Song, and Its Implication on Depression

in #music7 years ago (edited)

When Linkin Park transitioned to something softer sound, they received backlash from fans and even critics. I was also surprised considering their sound was heavy from their debut "Hybrid Theory" until their music slowly tones a down a bit from previous albums, except "The Hunting Party".

Despite the smoother and pop sounds incorporated in "One More Light" album, the best track from the record is the title track (One More Light). It sounds a bit of Coldplay during their earlier days, in a melancholic sound.

The album may have been criticized, it still gave Linkin Park's last number album for their vocalist Chester Bennington. The singer passed away after he took his life a few months ago, which shocked their millions of fans. Suddenly, fans who initially hated "One More Light" album, has understood the implications of some songs from the record including "One More Light".

This is just one of the reactions after Chester's death, as they haven't understood what is really going through, and many fans just hated the way "One More Light" album sounds.

After, Chester Bennington's passing, the album returned to the upper 10 of the albums chart elsewhere, which is commonly happening when a popular singer dies. But one of the possible reasons the album sold well again is the realization of some fans of the album's message.

Mike Shinoda is one of the writers of the track, and Chester Bennington may not have any contributions on the words, but the delivery is heartfelt like it was really written for him, when in fact it was written about other person. Fans actually thought it was written for another band vocalist Chris Cornell, a close friend of Chester Bennington. Cornell also passed away after suicide who had also gone through depression. In fact, it was believed that the song and the album "One More Light" has implications regarding depression.

Issues of Depression

Chester Bennington openly expresses about depression and anxiety which he is going through in the past. In fact, loads of their songs from their pas albums may sound deep with words, but a lot of them has implications of depression.

Depression has been making impact as a lot of its sufferers are resulting to suicides. It is an alarming case that people should be aware of that they might get affected in the future, or their family members may be going through the dark state who needs help and be saved from the possible outcome if depressions wasn't uncontrolled. The problem is the stigma behind and some people even stating it's just made up.

Linkin Park Members Against Depression

After Chester Bennington's suicide, Linkin Park has gone to campaigns against depression and to stop the stigma. Clearly enough, the song "One More Light", and the album has helped to understand depression, and how to stop the loss of lives that can happen because of it. Another song from the album which relates about living in the dimness about depression is "Nobody Can Save Me", which was fully sang by Chester himself.

Depression has taken a lot of lives and its very depressing. Maybe, we can start by acknowledging that it is real and not just made up dramas. Let us try to be more sensitive and compassionate, and make this world a happier place to live. 🤗💚

Great message from you. It was sad some people do not take it seriously.

I haven't heard that song of linkin park. But I agree depression is very rampant today especially for youths now.

Yeah, it's a sad thing happening.

That is why I make myself busy with writings, taking photos and with friends.

Writing journals is a good way to divert attention.
