In high school European History class, I had a major project with a partner to research and teach the class about one of the other world genocides. Yes. That means there are more genocides that happened other than the jewish holocaust. My friend who I got partnered up with, Anna, is part Armenian, and we thought it would be a good idea to do the Armenian Genocide.
Back then, even I did not know of the Armenian Genocide. So to research and learn about this grave event in world history humbled me so, and gave me new perspectives on our own lives and cultures.
The 1915 Armenian Genocide was a structured extermination of Christian Armenians by the old Ottoman Turk Government in the Ottoman Empire. Over 1.5 million Armenians lost their lives from this event. Some Turk officials from the old era may deny the Genocide ever happening, but we now know better.
Anna's great grandmother was a part of the Genocide. She lost her life being crucified along a well-walked path. So this project was of big importance to her and to her family. I was glad to be her partner and to help her spread the word.
The project consisted of 3 parts, the presentation, a special video that showcases the importance of recognizing and remembering these genocides, and the actual paper report itself. My partner Anna wanted to do the entire presentation herself, and I agreed to make the entire video. We both worked on the paper together.
This project was during my Senior year of high school, so this was around the time where I was just learning more advanced compositional skills and video skills. To this day, I still pray for those who have lost their lives in cases like these. This may be a bit of an amateur video, but I do hope that this will do the genocide some justice.
