Very nice song and post! I enjoyed reading about the background and your thoughts as well as listening.
I have heard about a lot of recent research into addiction and the way the social aspects of how we interrelate can support us in a way in which it is much easier to avoid addiction. I believe we can certainly change our way of life to be of better support to each other and the brain and body can make most any substance when feed with the right feelings thoughts and environment.
Thank you for checking out my song and for your reply. I have had an interesting relationship with addiction in general throughout my life, have devoted a lot of time and energy in research on the subject, but I am especially saddened by the recent resurgence of heroin use across the US, and have been thinking a lot lately about how much this novel still applies to life now, over 60 years after its original publication. Times have changed, but the story essentially remains the same.
Thanks for sharing! Wild Bob's Musical Book Club sounds awesome! How is the scene in Springfield as a whole? I'm heavily involved with trying to grow the Manhattan, KS scene at the moment. I might have to borrow the musical book club idea at some point!

The scene in Springfield is interesting. We have a lot of genres represented, but country, rap, and punk really dominate our scene so I play a lot of songwriter showcases and in Eureka Springs, AR and other places. The Wild Bob's nights ALWAYS have a great reception, and there always have a fantastic intellectual crowd.
You are officially invited to Manhattan Jessamyn! Haha, unfortunately we are short on venues right now (something we are actively trying to remedy). If you are serious about coming down though I would be happy to help you organize something. You could play with my band Philosophy of Lions if you like! Country, Rap and Punk huh? Interesting mix! We have a lot of country as well, a lot of the other genres rely on DIY house venues.

Beautiful song. I have a good friend who is lost in this way of life. I pray for her often. Keep creating beautiful music.
Thank you, and I, too, have lost friends down this hard path...and have others who are struggling in it currently. Sometimes all we can do is pray.
