I have mixed feelings about your friend’s techniques, but I love that he’s helping you to grow by letting you take control of the situation. In my time teaching DAW classes, I found that relinquishing control and letting a student thrive was the only way that growth happened. This being said, letting you grow doesn’t mean not making throwing you in the deep end and waiting until you learn to swim, whether you’re talking about the act of recording itself or composing and brainstorming about songs. DAW = Digital Audio Workspace, a program like Pro Tools, Cubase, or Ableton. Sounds like what you’ve got going on is great dude, can’t wait to hear some of it! And no worries at all
