The Old Dog Asks: Would You Rather Have The Blues or go And See Them?

in #music7 years ago (edited)

Combine a Fabulous Location, Top Notch Musicians With Free Entry And You've Got The Blues to Bop Festival in Lugano Switzerland!

I'd rather go and see the blues than have them and so last weekend I attended the Blues to Bop festival in Lugano. This was the 29th edition and once again we enjoyed an exciting evening of music.

Some Facts About The Lugano Blues to Bop Festival

  • This year 4 venues in Lugano were used. Piazza della Riforma, Piazza Dante, Piazza San Rocco and LAC
  • There was also a piazza in another spectacular nearby town. Piazza Grande Morcote
  • During the time of the festival the main road along the lake of Lugano is closed to traffic
  • The festival takes place over three days from Friday to Sunday at the end of August

Here Are Some Shots And Videos From This Year Festival

Look at the picking hand of this lead guitarist go! This and the other great pictures are by @peter-parker

In these first two pictures we saw a highly entertaining band which I did not see in the original program and so unfortunately I can't give their name here. The guitarist in the middle was playing a very unique cigar box guitar with a very special sound.

In this video you can get an idea of the sound of the Cigar Box guitar!

Slam Allen of The Chicago Blues Trio entertained us in Piazza Della Riforma. A great guitarist with a beautiful voice!

This video gives you a great feel for the spectacular Piazza Della Rifroma!

Here's the horn section from the band The Swing Leekers who played Jazz-Swing of the 1930's

The guitarist of  The  Swing Leekers was clearly enjoying performing for the crowd in Piazza San Rocco

Here you can get a taste for their swing style music as well as a look at Piazza San Rocco!

Will You attend Blues to Bop in 2018?

If you're planning to visit the beautiful city of Lugano Switzerland why not do so in late August so that you can attend the next addition of Blues to Bop! Who knows, considering that there are now at least 9 Steemers in the Lugano area perhaps a meet-up would be in order!

What About You?

  • Are there any music festivals in your area that you enjoy attending?
  • Will you be attending any in the near future
  • Have you ever visited Lugano?

I hope that you enjoyed this article about seeing the blues rather than having them!

Until next time,

Neither - I would rather play the blues!
I love all types of live music - all ages and all genres. Hubby and I go to at least one alternative / rock weekend festival every year. We got back from our favourite festival last Monday, and today I am really feeling the blues because I keep thinking "oh this time last week we were still there....."

Oh well, only another 51 weeks until next year's festival.

Great to read that you'd rather play them!

I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to play them very well - but I always find that what I lack in skill, I make up for with passion!

Bel festival e bella musica!

Ci starebbe! Se lo merita! Grande @peter-parker!👏🔝

I was there and I mainly focused on the Slam Allen performance. What to say, he was exceptional! He has this kind of gospel touch, with his amazing voice and a crazy load of energy! He simply reached to touch and involve the public, being also a great guitarist. Don't miss his video here! You can also listen to him on Spotify. It's a great festival btw, one of my favourite because of the beautiful locations and you can have a taste of some great bands! Great post and pics!!

Yes I figured that you were here but I didn't see you.....too many people I guess!

Yes Slam Allen was great!

Uno degli eventi più belli di Lugano ;-)
... ma quest'anno me lo sono perso :-(

Mama mia @steemitri. Va be.........2018!

Thx for the post.. never been to a blues festival... as you probably know by now I have a different favorite music... blogging 70 days in a row about it ;-) I also never was in Lugano. But hope to go there once, but for now it's not on my list.. first need to see some other plaves, like in year 2019 to the US.. That's why I started steemit and is my steemit goal..

Thx again, and waiting for your next post again!!

Yes, I love many genres of music. You have a great Steemit goal of getting the the US!

Thank you, and I actually starting to believe that it is possible..

Good music by the great bands in such a magnificent set-up. However I'd have loved it more in a more serene set up like on the banks of lake Lugano (in case if there is a possibility) or somewhere in nartural surroundings. Currently music seems to be trapped between the giant concrete structures (though they are beautiful too).

My city too organizes World Music Fest for last couple of years. It's held in February and just like this, is free for all 😊. Moreover, it's held on the banks of a lake as well as some other venue. Last year, they even put a floating stage in the water for the bands performing in early evening hours with sound system installed on the banks. People could stroll around the lake while enjoying their performance.

I know, you must have enjoyed it a lot. I was just giving my preference. If the organizers can do it for me, I MAY plan to join you in 2018 😉.

Thank you @peter-parker for these lovely pictures!

I'll submit your request. Hey maybe they'll make you a VIP guest for having such a great idea!

Ha ha ha! You are too funny!

Yes, somebody is talking about blues. Great!!

I've been a few times to the BRBF in Peer and saw great blues players like Thunderbirds and many more.

Sometimes my good old friends B.B and the Blues Shackes are live at this festivals and I love to go 2018 to Lugano.

If you love blues you might as well love beer - as this often goes together quite well. Than you might love my #BeerSaturday Challenge where I motivate people to create quality content around beer together with a story.

I do enjoy beer very much and I like to try different types. Last month I toured a brewery and wrote about it here. I'll check out your beer challenge!

Sounds like a plan. I will do the post for next #BeerSaturday soon and let you know.

A Crypto-Blues Bop....cant go far wrong with that! If I was there, I would go.
As some blues trivia, I'm sure you are well aware of Robert's deal with the devil?

Yes good old Robert became a good guitarist overnight but why????? What about Dylan?

Ah yes, the Old Dog knows his American music! Well Dylan has enough money, he can buy his soul back lol.
I just find it funny how the deal with the devil has worked itself into music over the years. Of course the big hit for Charlie Daniels "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is the classic example.

All i need is a glass of wine. Music festivals abound in and outside London, on ordinary days, individuals or groups busk in all corners.

Wow London! So much to see and do there. I love stopping to listen to buskers!

Yeah one can choose. Buskers are everywhere. The best were the live music along Regent's canal on top of boats. There were loads during the Olympics.

I would definitely rather not have them but to see them, oh yes, so good!!

You are a very wise man @meesterboom! Don't have them, don't get them but go and see them!

That should be a motivational poster!! Quick, find a picture of a nice sunset on a beach!!

I may not get there, but I enjoy blues. When I lived in Germany I noticed that people were really into that sort of music and I now know that a lot of blues acts tour around Europe. I had a sort of festival experience at the weekend when I was one of those playing at a village event. We had a range of music that included a lady singing stuff like Doris Day and a female-fronted band with a beatboxer. It ended with a blues band who also played some rock. It was a great afternoon of music and the weather smiled on us.

You were the one playing at the event! What a great experience, fabulous. That must have given you a lot of satisfaction!

I just did a few songs to an audience of mostly friends. It's still fun to get out there

"Swing Leekers" that would have been awesome to hear live. I haven't had a chance to attend a music festival recently, but you've inspired me to seek one out. I love live music! The energy is always a ton of fun to experience

Yes you should look out for some you'll have a blast!

Wow you are able to get free entry with Top Notch musicians in Switzerland.
What more could you ask for? haha
It is sad to see we don't have much blues going round as we did in the past as it is probably one of my favourite genres of music.
My favourite has to be Slam Allen as I just love his voice, the slow moving music and the power and zeal he has.
Thanks for sharing these pictures and videos with us @kus-knee

Yes Slam had great energy and a beautiful personality!

I love blues! Right now I'm listening to Ray Charles

Upvoted and resteemed

Good old Ray Charles!

Music is an international language that we all understand. It can touch the lives of many and speak with emotion and intensity that cannot be expressed in English, German or any other limited form of communication. You have to hear it, feel it and live it for it to truly reach you. But you understand it without any barriers. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much for your precious comment!

would love to get out and see some live blues!

I hope that you'll get the chance soon!

Awesome blues and nice effort Old Dog.. 🎼 Unfortunately, I never visited Lugano... But I'm participating many musical events in here.. But those are classical... But I love these blues.. I couldn't upvote you from the last few days.. I had some vacation in the poor network area.. I come back midnight in yesterday.. 😊
Upvoted for you.. Cheers..👌👍

Thanks for coming by. I also enjoy the classic and will go and see concerts when I have the chance.

i too did my best in upvoting and commenting on your post because you deserve this...... you are gonna be the top authors on steemit......

Thanks a lot!

He is already one @amanrazz! 😇

A blues festival in Switzerland? That seems odd, but awesome!

RiverFest in Watertown, WI is my personal favorite.

Many Europeans are into blues and a lot of big acts tour there.

I had no idea. That's fantastic.

So true. Several of the acts that I saw were from Italy!

The festival in Watertown must be a lot of fun!

Can't you have both? Some "good" old blues can make for some good blues music ;)

Yes, I suppose that you are right about having both!

really nice videos and music at festival @kus-knee, well yes i love festivals and in our country right now a eid festival is going on and we really enjoy our eid festival, we hear music and visit amazing places in our eid festival and we have four holidays in our country on eid ul azha.

Wow that sounds great!

@kus-knee,
Actually I never visited this place and rarely had music festivals experiences. So, don't know what should I say... But thank you very much for sharing such amazing experience with us! I feel like I was there! Really appreciate your work my dear friend!

Cheers~

thanks your posting. great video and nice music band.

Yes 41,000 earned a bit at a time over the past 14 months!

My festival days were spent at knebworth in southern England and last year I actually made it to edinburgh and saw a brilliant performance Corporal Manning comes to Washington.

Glad to read that you're getting out to see live music. It's so much fun!

Thanks for having a look and the resteem is awesome!

Hi friend, you are a great lover of music. I had also commented on your previous post about music. You have carry with you a great artistic mind, I also love music, but not so much western but Hindi. I don't know if it will happen or not, if I will get success in steemit community in near future, I will definitely make a visit to your country. Wish you all the best for your great effort in steemit community. Have a great day .

I also like Hindi music. The tablas and the Sitar are both wonderful!

Do you know Alex Oriantal Experience from mid 80s. This is a great mixture of Asian / Arabic sounds and some kind of rock and blues.

Enjoy...

Cool! Thanks for sharing that!

Do you know any Hindi song, please share with me, by the way which country are you belong to?

Thanks for letting us know; looks like a Nice and good festival. Have to See if it fits in my schedule. Bit definitely worth to re-schedule.

It is a great place to visit!

I adore live music! It's always a great atmosphere, lots of positive and true emotions.

You're right about the atmosphere!

It is Sunburn in India, happens mostly during New Year time around 20th-30 th of December every year. Every time Goa used to be preferred location but last year they shifted it to Pune due to some political issue.

It must also be a nice place to visit!

love music and video. it is looking, 100% like and resteem

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Thank you for the article. I love the blues too and Telluride, Colorado has a great blues festival every year. I attended many years ago. Tickets are still available for this year's event and it is only 11 days away!

So are you going?

I can't make it this year. I went before I had kids, now I'll have to wait another dozen years. 🤣

i don't . But someday i want to go And See Them

giphy.gif

Than you shall go!

I can't say I'm into blues but I'm sure I'd enjoy visiting Lugano. I've only been in the North of Switzerland so the Liechtenstein area is about the closest I've approached to Lugano. Not so close...

Well nothing is too far here in Europe so I guess you were a few hours away. Next time!

Oh, I love blues sooo much! We used to listen it in our Trabant :)))) With a high volume, of course :)))) Well, I'm over 50 but I feel as a teenager!
Music festivals? FeZenFest, every August in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. It was the 20th festival this year. I'm not planning to visit festivals in the near future, but I'd love to go once to Lugano, because I've never been there.

I'm sure that there are so many opportunities to see live music in The Budapest area. I'm glad that you still feel like a teenager. Me too as long as I don't look in the mirror! :)

A whole weekend music festival. I love those. Yes, I've been to Lugano, but never to a music festival in Switzerland. And, yes I go to music festivals, quite regularly; Mostly not the Blues festival like you went to, but electronic dance music festivals. I recently was at one of our biggest in the Netherlands, 60.000 vistors, two days. Not that I like those big ones, but sound is great and this festival does a lot in terms of decorations and the DJ lineup was pretty good. at least enough good to go. In a couple of weeks I may go to the season end party at some hippie campaign, they have some bands and DJs on the lineup, not sure what, but am pretty sure this will be a very nice event to go to. Generally these guys and girls program quality music and the people are just super nice, all much more openminded people than the average.

It seems that you have a lot of opportunities to see live music where you are. Very nice!

Enormous, the Netherlands is a small country so in about 2 hours I can reach any city or village in the country. This season we had/have about 800 electronic dance festivals only. We have at least 3 clubs in Amsterdam alone open for bands (all 10 minutes away from my home), multiple times a week. We have 10s of clubs in the city open Wednesday to Sunday. We have two major venues taking 10.000 people per venue with all weekends something going on, from bands, singers, to parties, in Amsterdam alone :)

I propose a town twinning between Lugano and Pistoia!!! We have a great festival called "Pistoia Blues" from about 30 years and I heard many blues-men in these years ^_^ In these last years there was also singers/bands not blues, but we have always some interesting blues men to hear (I lve so much blues music!)

Maybe one day I'll check out the Pistoia festival!

It will be great! ^_^

I like it The Blues, but I do not really deepen it because I just hear songs randomly, whether you are a musician :)
resteem your posy my friend @kus-knee

Thanks so much for having a look!

you r welcome sir :)
cheers

The music echoes in the emptiness. It reminds us where we came from and where we’re bound.

You are very poetic!

I make it my life goal to not have the blues, regardless of the situation. It's too easy to take the glass half empty view.

I tell you what, the musicians at the festival appeared to be having a great time.

I like your way of seeing things. "Every day we get to choose our attitude!"

Nice video with beautiful movie. love it.

There are many musical festivals in Ukraine! For example, the festival in Svirzh castle! I was not in Lugano. Thanks @kus-knee for the interesting post!
I was recently in the fortress of Akkerman! There was good bandura music! I will write about it tomorrow!

Bandura music? I need to find out what that is!
