The Durban Music Scene

in #music6 years ago

Durban is fast becoming a hub for great kusical talent, but is unfortunately srill looked down upon when it comes to entertainment.

The fact is, yes there is more money in Johannesburg so Durban artists are forced to relocate to Johannesburg in order to "make it". The misconception of Durban having no talent ir not having enough is rather annoying and ignorant considering the fact that the current top artists in the country come from durban, they may bot live here anymore, but their roots are here.

They say the hiphop culture in Durban is dying, the music industry is dying. This is thanks to propaganda. The media feeds us the story of "theres nothing really in Durban" when in actual fact, we are coming up extremely fast.

Thanks to guys like Aewon Wolf who has built up a space called The Werehouse. He has started mentoring many young acts on the come up who he says are the next big thing, lets keep in mind that he mentored South Africas leading artist like Shekhinah, Nasty C, Gemini Major and more. The Werehouse has become a hub for Durban talent. Whether rapper, singer, producer, songwriter, painter, videographer, photographer, choreographer etc... they are coming up. Huge Johannesburg artists are coming down week after week to host events and check out the new talent.

So to end it off, Durban is on the come up, dont look down on Durban too quick. The industry leaders hail from our streets. The next generation of great artist are coming from here too.
