Eye on Artists: Bob Marley

in #music7 years ago

An artist I was big into in secondary school was Robert Marley. Marley popularized the Rastafarian form of Christianity, a branch of the Ethiopian Gnostic tradition--which dates back all the way to time of Solomon's son Menalik possibly transporting the Ark of the Covenant from Israel to Aksum Ethiopia where it is claimed to still be housed today. One of Bob Marley's most famous songs is "One Love."

Another big hit is "Redemption Song" which starts by discussing slavery and the tribulations of one victim of that cruel system who refuses to have his spirit broken.

"I Shot the Sheriff" was another big hit in which the killing of a tyrannical sheriff but sparing the life of his deputy is discussed.

With the continuing anti Trump Russia investigation going on with no public evidence to justify the media coverage it has gobbled up that situation makes me think of this hit "Simmer Down"

"High Tide Or Low Tide" is another great song that emphasizes how true friendship continues even if life ebbs for the good or bad, perhaps when it is bad one finds their true friends--these bidirectional nature of human dyadic relationships is interesting.

Though I could write many more paragraphs of awesome songs from Marley, but I'll leave it with a great acoustic song, "I'm Hurting Inside"
