Hello everyone in Steemit nation! I have a great story for you this good day. I have been a drummer for over 20 years but never really got that far because of my lack of discipline and not having the time to play as much as I would have liked. Working so many hours to pay the bills sucks! Adulting... no fun! A few years ago I began to develop issues in my wrists and forearms from waiting tables for so many years and I had to put the sticks aside to take time to recover from two decades worth of repeated motion that was stifling me till no end. It was about that time that my son started to really show an interest in drumming. I couldn't be happier. Saige is a natural. Literally every time I heard him play he got better and better. I was on a mission to help lead him down all the paths that I skipped over. Being self taught only got me so far. Not far enough.
Being a drummer is hard work and can be very frustrating on many levels. Especially with out any real guidance. When I was growing up YouTube was not around yet and drum teachers were hard to find. And expensive. Now days tutorials on everything are everywhere and anyone with a good work ethic can get as good as they want to be. Needless to say, Saige has much more natural talent than myself and a world of opportunity ahead of him. I've already got him a great young percussion teacher. The juice is worth the squeeze. I see improvement by leaps and bounds week in and week out.
Unfortunately I sold my drum set years ago because I just wasn't playing. Living in a condo wasn't the best place to play either. Let me tell you my neighbors have always had issues with me growing up and I was pretty much over the confrontations. Now heres the good part. Six months ago I rented out a warehouse/office space for my dehydrated food storage company. I made sure to get a big enough space to accommodate room for plenty of music playing. Its time to get back involved. This time on a much deeper level. I have much more going for me at this point. More time, a better space and of course the motivation of watching my son ascend to levels I just wont reach. I'll just have to live vicariously through him! So two months ago I went out an purchased a beautiful DW kit. Its everything I ever wanted but could never afford. Brand new everything and sounds like a million bucks!
What you are watching in this video is my son and I jamming together for the first time. This 4 minute jam is total improv freestyle. Just sitting down playing and whatever comes out comes out. So much fun! I could not imagine a better way for my son and I to bond over the thing we love the most. This is just the first of many freestyle vids to come. I imagine he and I sitting down and actually taking the time to write a dueling drum solo battle father/son style that will blow you away! After all we are only going to get better and help push each other to new levels as we grow into this space together. The endless world of percussion... amazing! We have big plans including making tons of videos of us jamming along to some of our favorite songs and artists. I hope you enjoy this one. Just a happy father enjoying the heck out of playing side by side with his favorite person on earth! There will be many more to come please follow and like! Ill be happy to return the follow and check out your content too. What a wonderful platform through which to share amazing life experiences through Steemit!

Very cool! I know what a trip it is playing music with your kids. I was a bass player in a classic rock band for about 20 or so years. My son plays guitar and bass, he started jamming with us when we were practising, back when he was about 17-18 years old. It's really cool watching them getting better and better.
Thats so cool! I'm so excited for this chapter in our lives. Thanks for the comment!
Awesome brother! I have a nearly 4 year old, and he loves music. I've always played around him and can only hope that he goes the same way. Would be nothing better than jamming with my son.
Thats awesome man nothing better! just followed hope to see it one day;0
lets hope so. Thanks for follow back. He's only 4 so maybe in a year or 2 we'll see a father/son rendition of watchtower :)
This is a great story, firing up the video now.
Kilt it boys. Nice job.
Dude! Awesome man thank you! My first fire up! Followed you bro sick!
You're doing good work there, Dad. Keep it up.
Thanks man.. nothin better. I got a great kid
as a long ago band/orchestra drummer (3rd grade to 8th, HS band was def not in my stoner profile by then) I recognized the training your boy is getting in rudiments and such. It was a bit like watching marching band tomtom player meshed with neil pert lol. Get that kid a kit and lets see you rip on TWO sets, Mickey Hart/Bill Kreuzman style (grateful dead's two drummers) I understand they take turns dividing the work into the rhythm line and the fill guy. So one is laying down the core beat and the other is noodling on toys and triangles and gongs and cowbells and all that "assorted perc" stuff. but they swap out and thats how they avoid getting tired during 4 hour non stop sets of 20 minute tunes
Bro, love the reply. infant that is our ultimate plan!
Vids or it never happened ;)
So cool! My Dad is a drummer, played in a band back in the day. Every Sunday morning we would wake up to his playing the drums in the basement haha. Your jam reminded me of that. :)
