Curiosities about The Ramones

In 1976, the Ramones arrived and devastated all levels in the USA. Direct songs of an average duration of 2 minutes but with a frankness that was insulting to the time, were vetoed in many North American radio stations, nevertheless they managed to write its particular chapter in the history of the rock to lay the bases of Punk that 3 years later they would rage in London and Europe. Many of their songs became generational anthems "Hey, ho, let's go" ... and their war cry "gabba gabba hey" sounded in all his concerts.

They chose speed instead of complexity. They wanted to be the Beach Boys and Alice Cooper. They stood without complexes against the enigmatic games of progressive rock, the endless solos and the symphonic synthesizers. The music of the Ramones did not contain filters or studio fixing and could hardly be described as adults, with those letters that spoke of sniffing glue or beating brats with a baseball bat.

The band, whose members were intended to be siblings, was created in 1974 in the New York borough of Queens, and was originally composed by singer Jeffrey Hyman (Joey Ramone), guitarist John Cummings (Johnny Ramone), bassist Douglas Colvin (Dee Ramone) and percussionist Tamás Erdélyi (Tommy Ramone). Together they looked for ways to use the guitars so that they would sound like electric saws.  

With their uncompromising music, hard and without ornaments, they soon reached the cult group status within the band. punk rock movement. They were the punk rock populers around the world, they released their anarchist, rebel and anticapitalist thoughts .....

The Ramones created the Punk movement, since they were the first to play this style of music in the CGCB of New York. Precisely thanks to the music of the Ramones , the Sex Pistols got to know each other, which is impossible for the English group to create punk, as its mostly believed.

In 2003 Johnny Ramone was named the sixteenth greatest guitarist of all time by the Rolling Stone Magazine.  

On September 15, 2004, Johnny Ramone died in his Los Angeles home after a 5-year battle with prostate cancer.  

Joey Ramone died of lymphoma on April 15, 2001.  

The Ramones were ranked 26th among the 100 Best Artists of All Time by Rolling Stone Magazine The Immortals.

Joey Ramone - vocals (1974-'96)  

Dee Dee Ramone - bass (1974-'89)  

Johnny Ramone - guitar (1974-'96)  

Tommy Ramone - drums (1974-'78)  

CJ Ramie - bass (1989-'96)  

Richie Ramone - drums (1983-'87)  

Marky Ramone - drums (1978-'83, 1987-'96)  

Elvis Ramone - drums (only in shows of 1987)

The Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.  

Joey and Johnny Ramone were the only members of the group to ever be replaced.  

Three of the original members of the band - Joey, Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone - died of different conditions a few years after the group broke up.

The Ramones are known as the "Godfathers Punk".  

For VH1's the Ramones are number 17 of the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.  

Dee Dee Ramone apparently died of an overdose on June 6, 2002.  

The Ramones ' hit "I Wanna Be Sedated" is considered by Rolling Stone magazine and MTV as the # 71 song among the 100 Greatest Pop Songs of All Time.  

On November 30, 2003, it was named  a corner of a street in New York city the "Joey Ramone Place" . It's in the same block where the Ramones started, in the famous CBGB club. The memorial plaque of Ramones singer Joey Ramone, located in a New York plaza has had to settle at six meters in height, to try to prevent it from disappearing again, as it has become the most stolen signal of the city, according to The New York Post.  

Another fun fact about The Ramones is the origin of their name, since Joey was such a fan of The Beatles he named the band "The Ramones" after  the fake name Paul McCartney used  for hotel check ins  as "Paul Ramone"
