Album Review. Papa Roach - Who Do You Trust? (2019)

in #music6 years ago (edited)

Hello to all!

We will analyze the tenth album of Californians Papa Roach, which was carelessly merged much earlier than the specified release. Let me remind you that the date on all resources was January 18.01, but you could still listen to it a couple of weeks before.

The participants were trumpeting about the novelty of the material, something unusual, mixed and maximally subversive.

Growing up on nu metal, I watched the changes of Papa Roach's music and I liked the first albums more. But as time goes on, the trends are changing, over the years firm hard rock with a touch of rap-core has become a hip-hop alternative. It seems to be almost the same, but not that.

And so, the 2019th year and the album “Who Do You Trust?”

Probably, it would be ugly to describe the album with the fashionable word “fashionable”, but as long as I did not press the “Delete” key, this word already appeared in the text.

Listening to song by song, I couldn’t reconcile myself with the prevailing popular sound, in which in recent years eminent musicians are jumping, like in the pool of last and only hope. Simply put, Papa Roach began to write music that was accessible to everyone. It's moderately beautiful and light, but still simple and this is strain.

But thanks to the band for warning us already from the first composition that it is waiting for us.

Almost the entire tracklist is compositions, which are cool to listen to when sitting in a lowrider with a glass of some kind of non-alcoholic mojito. No elevated degrees, scuffle and torn elbows - in any case. The only hope for a comeback can be heard in a "I Suffer Well", where, finally, is screaming of Johnny Vodka and guitar muddy Horton.

Of the songs that are especially unpleasant to me, I single out only “Elevate”. A chorus of singing bunny boys at the beginning, an up-and-coming hip-hop, and then Shaddix’s breathing voice - there’s obviously something wrong.

At this, in principle, unpleasant moments stop. The evenness of the album, moderate quality and, unfortunately, too unpretentious guitar riffs stupidly align the musical list and from the first listening you think: “What is that?”

Before the release, four singles came out and I really liked "Not the Only One". Major acoustics at the beginning in the style of Blur, provocative Jonny Vodka and bumts-bumts under distortion. Cool combination and listens downright fresh.

"Better Than Life" in the beginning did'nt like. But later it has become a favorite song and already uploaded to the mobile. And by the way, also in the good old spirit of the team.

Summing up, I will say the following: those fans of the group who know what “Infest” and “Lovehatetragedy” most likely will not accept the new material.

Thanks for your attention!
