Voice professionals know how critical and very important it is to treat their voice boxes with great care. What we drink – in and around performances as well as when we’re not performing – can have a direct bearing on the outcome. Some persons may argue that when you are not performing, there is no need oobserving the do's and dont's in voice training. One can afford to throw caution to the wind and eat those foods or drinks whch adversely affect one's singing. This assertion is deceptive and misleading.

Healthwise, it is no news that sugar or tea may have a negative effect on your voice and stall an already good performance. The truth is, at some point we need that sweetening taste which gives a satisfactory feeling and at the same time, we need the voice to be always ready for action. We could have an emergency performance which could be as important as a wll prepared performance.

An alternative to the foregoing could be HONEY. Its jelly and unique sweetened taste with no adverse effect of health conditions such as diabetes is a choice to reckon with. The thick nature of the honey effectively coats and lubricate the throat and provide temporary relief to the swollen throat tissues improving your scratchy voice. Addition of lemon to honey is a harmonious tool for enormous vocal improvement.
Honey has a soothing effect not just to the throat but other parts of the body e.g the skin, eyes, inflamed areas of the body etc. The interesting part is that it is also medicinal, not just for your voice but the body as a whole.
Interestingly, in various localities, honey is quite beneficial to diabetes mellitus patients. This will be exhaustively discussed in another post soon.

HOW CAN HONEY BE USED BY A SINGER?
*Make it a habit to use honey for your tea or coffee if you need it sweetened. The voice will get accustomed to being sweet,"tasting" like honey each time you sing.
*Just having a teaspoon will coat your throat, making your voice sound smoother. A tablespoon of honey before you sing will coat your throat and relieve soreness from your vocal cords being overworked or stressed due to countless rehearsals.

*Don’t drink or take any dairy substance such as milk, eggs, cheese or butter the day before or the day of the performance. Also don’t eat anything too sugary. It messes up your throat and make you sound hoarse or grumpy .
In conclusion, Honey also have antibacterial properties which effectively reduces the bacterial infection in the throat allowing the vocal cords to heal. However, if taken in excessive amounts can irritate the throat resulting to the hoarseness of voice. In other words, donot abuse its use indiscriminately.Too much of everything is bad. Use discreetly. For Steemians who love to sing, you owe yourselves a big favour to try this out if you havent, and i can assure you, Honey, you wont regret this..👌👌
