Who's The Worst Singer From The All Time Greats?

in #music8 years ago (edited)

This is a curly one because you have to take a step back.

Imagine you've never heard of these singers before, you're in a karaoke bar and each of them stands up and belts out a shameless cover of Unchained Melody. Which one sounded the worst?

  1. Bob Dylan
  2. Tom Waits
  3. Leonard Cohen
  4. Mick Jagger
  5. Lou Reed

I know, I know... being a great singer is not all about technique and pitch. Charisma, character and just plain old swagger can define a great frontman. Still, it's a fun idea. So, what do you think?

Tell me in the comments but don't forget to say why!

Spoiler:

I did this poll on Google+ where I had over 600 votes. The results were as follows:

Bob Dylan 37%
Tom Waits 13%
Leonard Cohen 15%
Mick Jagger 24%
Lou Reed 11%

But that was Google+ after all...

Were they totally wrong?

Great idea for a poll. I'd go with Dylan, even though he's one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Cohen and Reed have more of the speaking poetry kind of thing, so aren't pure singers; there's something else going on. I'm not a big Waits guy, but he has an awesome voice; why is he on that list? Jagger's a singer; he isn't that bad. I say Dylan.

Thanks steemship!
Funnily enough... I'd have to say Jagger. I'm a singer, so I probably zone in a bit more than most on off pitch notes... and Jagger has me cringing in most songs. That doesn't mean I don't think he's a brilliant front man though. Just saying that, if I heard in for the first time at Karaoke... I think I'd want another drink haha.

gotta also go with Bob Dylan
