Paige's Playlist, May 19 2020: "Curses" by The Crane Wives
Many people more casually refer to songs as "bops" or "jams" depending on the feeling of the song. I would classify this one as a "groove": it's moody and calm, but still a lot of fun to listen to. The song is primarily driven by the lush vocals that provide some excellent harmonies, and the prominent marching percussion. Other instrumentation is sparse to give room for the vocals, but the clarinet at the beginning that is sprinkled throughout is a highlight that adds to the darker but incredibly vibrant nature of the song. Everything comes together and creates an excellent blend of folk and rock, two of my favorite genres, that I may or may not have had on loop for the past month.
