All the good news out of SteemFest² motivated me to play some of my favorite Portuguese language music.
A mini soundtrack for a few of you in Lisbon, and elsewhere around the globe.
Djavan
He is one of the most beloved musical stars in Brazil, a native of Maceió in Northeastern Brazil. A is a singer and an incredibly prolific songwriter. Here is my favorite track from his album NOVENA which I highly recommend.
In 1990 Djavan appeared on the very popular TV Show Night Music with some of the best jazz musicians around:
David Sanborn sax, Marcus Miller bass, Omar Hakin drums, Hiram Bullock guitar, Don Alias percussion. Hiram Bullock is freaking amazing on guitar!
Águas de Março
This song which means Waters of March in English, is a beautiful song on so many levels. I've going to give you two great versions. The first in Portuguese and English so you can better appreciate the lyrics.
Susannah McCorkle
This clip is a version by Susannah McCorkle. She was an extraordinarily accomplished person. She studied Romance languages and got a degree in Italian literature, but choose to pursue singing. She was a lover of Bosa Nova and then learned Portuguese. She was also an accomplished writer. I first heard her version of this song when watching a Jerry Seinfeld documentary about standup comedy -- it was playing in the background and I studied the film credits to find out who it was. Sadly, she took her own life by jumping from her balcony in NYC.
Elis Regina & TomJobim
Antônio Carlos Jobim aka Tom Jobim was and is an iconic figure in Brazilian music, whose music became immensely popular worldwide. In this clip he is singing with Elis Regina who was widely regarded as one of the greatest popular singers in Brazil. Sadly, she died of an overdose at the age of 36.
Have a wonderful day, and a safe trip home!

Nice music, we love Brazilian music and it reminds us of our adventurous travels in Brazil, a huge country, melting pot of many cultures and full of contrasts! Greetings from Diana, @steemitri 's translator and host
That must have been a wonderful trip. Brazil has some of the best music the world has ever produced. Glad to cyber-meet you Diana!
