GZA & The Soul Rebels (NPR Tiny Desk Concert)

in #music7 years ago

Legendary Wu-Tang Clan emcee recently stepped to the desk with a New Orleans based jazz band called The Soul Rebels. For those who don't know GZA, he was a founding member of the world famous hip hop crew from Staten Island, New York. The GZA has often been credited as one of the masterminds behind the Wu Tang Clan's formation and subsequent string of successful solo projects.

Recently he joined up with an awesome jazz band named The Soul Rebels for what has become known as the NPR Tiny Desk Concert series. "The first Tiny Desk Concert came about in 2008 after (Bob) Boilen and NPR Music editor Stephen Thompson left a bar show frustrated that they couldn't hear the music over the crowd noise.(1) Thompson joked that the musician, folk singer Laura Gibson, should just perform at Boilen's desk. A month later Boilen arranged for her to do just that, making an impromptu recording and posting it online.(2)" The rest, as they say, is history.

The internet has become a perfect distribution tool for the recorded concerts and they have been viewed online millions of times. Today a friend brought this video of the GZA & The Soul Rebels performance and it was absolutely awesome. Go and check it out for yourself:
