After a full week away from Steemit, the time has come to abandon mediocracy and put blood, sweat and tears into my projects once again. If you’d like to hear my newest beat, please click this link. I encourage you to continue reading to know some of my recent thoughts in a disorganized, stream-of-consciousness, journaled way. Today, I’m thinking back to the past three months of consistent posting. Let’s start at where it all began—a challenge to myself.

An Ambitious Personal Goal

The beginning of my beat series was a challenge to myself to make one beat a day for 21 consecutive days. (21 days is supposedly the shortest time required to make anything habit.) I ended up becoming attached to churning out new music constantly and went many days past my original goal of 21 days. Recently, I noticed that I’d gotten to a point where I wasn’t really putting myself into what I was creating. I quickly created something and then posted it with little to no editing. Numbers-wise, this process has yielded around 6 hours of unique music all in under 3 months. Not to discount the value of this insane amount of musical material, but this musical process of creating one new piece of music everyday has involved none of the finer creative nuances I really crave as a composer, which subtle tweaks truly go a long way to make a piece sound polished and complete. Let me explain a bit further what I mean.

The classical process of creating a piece of music is like nurturing a relationship.

For me, it often takes conscious effort over many days to manifest a completed piece of music into the physical realm. What I mean by manifesting into the physical realm refers to the time and conscious effort it takes to notate and engrave a score. The funny thing about this nurturing relationship one creates when he/she works multiple days on one project is the whole piece has already existed in the mind of the person putting it down on paper (or inputting on a computer program) before they sat down to actually commit the music to paper. To write down and compose a piece of music is a personal endeavor to share the result of what once lived, grew and matured internally by organic processes.

So why spend all of the time to create something which already exists in your mind?

My personal philosophy for my music’s aesthetic is this: I am a human being here on planet Earth, so by my process described above, if I do well when creating something, you will feel my humanity in the audio when it plays back, and hey! if you’re not a human listening to my music, then maybe you’ll begin to think humanity ain’t all that bad after all! haha (pardon the horrible joke there). I try to infuse my soul in what I create when I know the time required to see the project through to completion is great.

The Future

We arrive at the point I’ve been building up too. For now, expect to see me as more of a human on this incredible platform, instead of a mechanical being putting all of my energy into the next product. I have begun in my mind what will be my next huge artistic endeavor, and I’m excited to share it in all of it’s myriad forms of incompletion. I’m excited that you are some of the first people to follow my music, as I’ve never really tried to build a community around the art I create before. I write here that my intention is clear: my new goal is to build my followers by the magnetic quality of my energetic signature, as well as the merit of the music I create.

Expressing Gratitude and Thankfulness

Steemit, you’ve been the source of the inspiration to push myself to my ambitious limits, which statement is something I’ve been wanting to say for a long time. Everyone reading these words, feel full of ability and courage to do what you naturally excel at now. Do not delay. You are the positive source for change in your life, and you must act with 110% to see it through. It’s absolutely mind-blowing to see how quickly a dream you’ve had in your mind for months, years or decades can become reality with the full force of your conscious energy. Focus, commit and do. These words are my charge to you…

With love and humanity,

Rusty Allen Jernigan

Here’s the link to a little something I created while I was away: https://soundcloud.com/rallenj/mercury-retrograde-beat-119.

PS my beats will be uploaded to soundcloud from now on. With all due respect to dsound, I must make mention here that I do not see eye-to-eye with the quality and integrity of dsound’s service as of now. I sincerely hope that this decision of mine can be redacted in the future. If you’ve been experiencing playback issues with the recent music I’ve been posting, that should no longer be an issue with Soundcloud.
